laptop screen

hello folks :wink:

well my 3 yr old daughter decided to help close my laptop when my lighter was on the keyboard :cry:

and she said she loved all the pretty colours when she opened it back up :cry:

so does anyone know where i can get a new screen for the following :cry:

im having to use my plasma as a monitor for my laptop now and the mrs isnt too happy as she carnt watch her soaps :axe:

checked ebay and the cheapest i found was £ 110 + del :shock:

do you have home contents insurance
if so contact them with the way prices are coming down you might end up with new laptop if its cheaper than getting it repaired

I've replaced Screens on laptops with parts on Ebay, but you have to be very careful as there are some duff and scratched panels out there.

With the Dell's a lot of the parts are interchangeable.

Household Insurance will usually come with an excess and could put up your insurance, it will probably be cheaper not to claim.

Why would you want a new screen? A dell can work just as well as a doorstop with or without one :twisted:

As has been said, your best bet for a "cheap" screen would be E-bay, but unfortunately Dell parts are hard to come by, on account they insist on using their own special parts, rather than generics. If you took the laptop for repair, odds on you would be told that it was beyond economic repair, as a new screen from Dell direct would be about the same as a new laptop. Sadly we live in a throwaway age where things just aren't repaired any more.

You could claim on your household insurance, at the cost of a new laptop these days, it's not going to affect your premium too much.

im keeping an eye on a few laptops on ebay for parts or a replacement - so fingers crossed

me mrs is gona have to give in one way or another if she wants the tele back for her soaps :lol:

am i wrong in thinking that all dell laptops with 15.4 " screens are the same screens regardless of model no ???

i think i will give dell a shout to see which screens are compatable with my model as there are loads of dell laptops with good screens on ebay which might be of some use

I would love to say that all Dell screens are compatible, but sadly it won't be the case - different models will have different mounting points, pinouts, etc etc - but that being said, there should be a fair few that will use the same or similar

This may not help,but earlier this year I had to replace the keyboard on wifeys Dell lappy,got a replacement from Gemstar via Ebay.

Found the box contact E-Mail :- anitapatuk3@yahoo.co.uk .it went straight in worked perfecly,delivery was prompt,not sure if they do other parts but must be worth an email query

Just to let you know, that a lot of Dell Engineers buy up machines off ebay to get fixed under warranty.

Which means any Dell PC or part often has a fair amount of competition for it.

Most of the Dell screens are the same, try and find out what models are similar to yours and widen the net.

update guys

well got me hands on another laptop exactly the same model with good screen

also more memory and bigger hard drive than mine
plus all the other spare parts that i might need in future

all for the same price as a screen i was going to buy £ 130 + del

As a general rule screens and various parts from the same model lineage of laptop will be the same, for example, sony's FX series all use the same parts, as do toshiba in say their 2300 models, ie 2350 and 2360 all use the same screens, keyboards etc. So if you can find a dell from the same lineup it should work.
