do you agree with the strike

personaly i DO NOT support the strike, 35K to 40K is a good wage i wish i was on that sort of money, all this has done is push the price of petrol up even higher.
My local garage has just put its price up again by 2p p/l (it is now 118.9p p/l), I belive this is cos they know people are going to panic buy and the bosses are cashing in, and as usual the government are doing nothing they should put a cap on fual prices when industrial action is being made.

Beer lorrys run on diesel,so due to increasing delivery costs the price of a pint will rise :cry:

Shell reported record UK profits in January
Oil tanker drivers who are contracted to Shell have voted to take strike action over pay.

Union Unite said 500 drivers, who deliver to petrol stations across the country, had voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.

The union is calling for a minimum wage of £36,000 a year, around £2,000 more than drivers are currently paid.

The workers' employer, Hoyer UK, said it would meet Unite for further talks in a bid to resolve the dispute.

National officer Ron Webb said there was increasing anger among workers, which was shown by the vote.

"These drivers are paying a hefty price for Shell's stratospheric profits. Our members' dedication helped Shell make its vast profits.

"All they are asking for in return is a living wage, one that reflects their skills, their heavy working week and helps make ends meet at a time when every worker in the country is being hit hard by rising fuel and food prices.

"We have a firm mandate for action and a workforce that is extremely angry about how they are being treated."

A spokesman for Hoyer UK said it was disappointed by the decision.

"We have made what we consider to be a good offer of 6% on all elements of pay and had hoped this would provide the basis for a settlement.

"Nevertheless, we plan to meet with Unite in the near future and remain hopeful that the situation can be resolved."

It added its drivers already earned more than £36,000 in average pay which would increase to £38,500 with a 6% rise.

Judging from the responses on the Jeremy Vine show on radio 2,they are suffering a lack of public sympathy.

The strike must not last long or people will run out of fuel before,they can join in on the fuel price protest convoys. :oh yer:

Sorry ....but whats the point in complaining about the rising cost of fuel if you're prepared to join one of these rolling road blocks ......
surely that defeats the object of saving as much fuel for that emergency that's lurking around the corner
as far as i can gather ...it's only "Shell" that are on strike over pay ....well if you ask me ...why the hell did Shell release it's annual profits over the national goggle box ...did they not see that strike threat coming or something :roll:

Why do big companies think that the majority of the general public are remotely interested in how much proffit they screwed out of us over a 12 month period :twisted:

as i say my local garage has raised its pice on petrol by 2p i could sort of understand that disition if it was a shell garage but this is a BP garage its purley ripping us off and making a massive profit even bigger (sales of fuel for today has risen by a quarter, that is the eqivelant of sale on a friday before a bank holiday weekend)

if the goverment get about half the sale price of petrol than with the rise from this strike the gov are laughing and so are the companys the only poeple it is affecting is us.

They way I look at it, if you don't like your pay, get another job!
Working in IT, I left school at 18, and started my working life as a PC builder... working up the ladder to get my own Ltd Company.
I work on Data Communications Networks all over the south west, TV-Licencing, Swindon Hospital etc.
I could have become a tanker driver, but didn't!

These drivers are morons... They are striking over pay when the rest of us are paying through the nose for the stuff they deliver...
I supported the fire brigade strike, I even support the Post Office strike to a degree, but this is a strike of just being greedy!
The BBC is reporting drivers salaries up to £41500 that is just stupid for driving a tanker (truck). The public's discontent over fuel is not about how much the tanker drivers get paid (who gives a toss anyway...) but about how much we all have to pay for it at the pump.

So NO I definatly DO NOT support them! Selfish Barturds!

Dont know how true it is but guy on local radio this morning quoted shell to be making a profit of 1.2billion per month.
If that is the case then surely some could be filtered back to reduce fuel costs to us!

People keep slating shell, its not their fault, as Smiffy said its the sub contractors that move the fuel around for Shell who are on strike, and the contractors union want Shell to fund their pay rise, strange as they are just sub contractors ... they have got to be careful as I suppose Shell could end the contract and they would be out of a job and have to sign up to an agency to do the same job for a fraction of the money.

And lets face it, in the real world thats not a bad wage.

I have worked in petrol stations a few years back, and was working there during the last fuel crisis. that aside.

I am a strong believer in that your paid for what you do. And that if you want to go to your boss and ask for a pay rise, you need to have earned it. from what i have seen of the petrol tanker driver is that he is not different from the guy who delivers, milk, bread, your supermarket goods. or any other lorry driver.

I have not seen how he fills his tanker, but i know how its emptied in said petrol station.

This is how it goes, the petrol company call the garage half hour before the deliver, they are told what the driver is carrying, fuel types and amounts, and which underground tank it will go in, tank 1,2,3 and so on.

so the tanker driver arrives at the station. he gets a reading on the tanks to check all will fit in said tanks. the a fire certificat is filled in, this states where the fuel is going, takes 3 to 4 mins. ans is usually done by the garage before he arrives.

The garage assintant then goes out with the driver, checks vapour recovery hose connected and checks the hose that the driver conects to, is the right tank, lets say 6000l unleaded into tank 1. from compartment 1 from the petrol tanker. then certificate is singned, this is usually done with 2 hoses connected. then you just stand and wait till tanker is emtied, drink a coffee. then when emtied, check the glass bubble to make sure tanker compartment is emtied, same process for the rest of the tanker. all told the whole process takes about half an hour.

So how much would you say they are worth, and what rise they are worth, there job has not changed, same thing day in day out.

I agree totally Ian, the abuse you have to take from the public and other drivers let alone the shift pattens screwing up your life and overtime at flat rate with no extra for shift or weekend allowance, and the bus companies wonder why they cant get staff.

The above is the reason after 18 years driving I made the move to Head office at least my 18 years of experience got me out.

You dont exist until something goes wrong as a bus driver. :soap box:

and i agree with the strike, just because if you can get it go for it, and you dont know untill you try, my aim in life is to better my self by any meens, if it meens steping on a few toes so be it, and think the whole uk should do it,
