hi i'm new to this forum so here goes i,ve just brought a j reg frontera SWB sport 2 litre £300 not bad because someone stole my freelander, it all works well apart from the transrer box i think i,m using it right . Stop car select gear then select transfer box option 4H, 4L or 2H then drive auto locking hubs engage when changing back to 2H reverse about three meters to dissengage locking hubs. The only things that's not to good is the transfer box jumps out of 4H ofter a few meters 4L AND 2H are not affected. i don't want so spend loads but if i can get all the niggiling fault mended when the freelanders repaired i might start to turn the fronter in to a weekend play toy even in two wheel drive its good off road and at a few quid not worried about paint scratches. and where can i get spares from need two indicators.
ps is the engine the same as they used in the carlton.

This one could be a simple fix.
1. Unscrew both gear knobs
2. Unscrew to two little screws on the gear stick surround, closest to the hand brake.
3. Lift of plastic gear stick surround with the gaiters on
4. You should be able to see both gear levers easily, on the small gear stick, there should be a large spring visibily attatched, to both the 4wd gear stick and the left hand side.
Sometimes this becomes detatched, resulting in the symtoms you discribed.
Secondly, Give me a PM if your interested in two front indicators, I have both of them sitting around. £10 for the pair plus around £5 - £6 P&P
Thirdly, yes they are the same 2.0 ltr engines as the carlton, the only difference is the sump needs to be changed.
Hope this helps.

The freeklander may have had permanent 4wd but the frontera has a proper hi and lo range transfer box. very handy when control is required without burning the clutch.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it! Me Truck
