Speedo stopped working 2.5 TD

Postby JBW on Fri Apr 11, 2008 10:18 pm

HI, looks like a busy weekend ahead - again....

A couple of months back my speedo & mileometer stopped . I got a replacement sender (I understand it's all electronic to the dash), this didn't help. However, after removing & replacing fuses in the fuse box in the drivers cabin whilst checking for blown fuses it started to work again. Last week it stopped again. Same trick re fuses didn't work.

I noticed some older post in a similar vain but the url's listed don't link correctly due to the change in home page address. It looks like I might have to take the dash out & check for dry joints. But are there other things I should check first/as well? I note comments regarding resetting switches etc...?

Very tricky passing cameras - 30 MPH is 1500RPM in 4th. No higher on the revs.... :?

Thks. JB.

Fixed. After taking speedo assy out and re-tinning all connections still no joy. Then I checked the wiring diag in the Haynes book of lies & noted that the speed sensor is powered via a 10A fuse - F23d. This is one of the fuses in the top left of the fuse compartment on the drivers side. I must have missed it before. It was blown even though it was only just possible to see the break. Changed and hey presto!

Just concerned why it blew in the first place! Still it's working now.

Regs, JB.
