fuel question

hi all, now i no that the 2.0l is thirsty but is it this thirsty, monday i put £20 of petrol in and i only got about 85 miles, and i have not done more than 60mph i can smell petrol when i pull up too and from work, i cant see any leaks but not had a good proper yet. any ideas?
