Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

Postby Alfie on Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:09 pm

My other car is a 51 plate Renault Laguna. Nice car, but expensive to replace anything that goes wrong.
Mrs Alf is partially disabled and needs her wheels as she is not very good on her pins. So we decided to take out Direct Choices breakdown cover for peace of mind in case of breakdowns when funds are limited.
We are now on our second claim and the boss Lady is not happy with the response/service. We could only take the car to an approved garage wich did not offer a curtesy car or towing facilities. Our prefered garage offers both but they will not approve repairs there.RAC towed car to approved garage 9 miles from home and she has spent all day arguing over what they will pay for towards the repairs.
Can any one reccomend another provider of such cover and has anyone any good feedback as to response/service etc.
Cheers Alf :D

I have got the full AA package which includes "Homestart", "Roadside" and "Relay" and "Parts and Labour" to £500. You dont have to take it to an approved garage but you have to inform them where you are taking it to and they will call them for a quote. You then pay up front and claim it back from the AA. I had to use it when the Master and Slave cylinder went on my Espace, went to my prefered grease monkey, paid him the £480 odd for the work then sent the bill to the AA. Cheque arrived for the full amount within the week. So would highly recommend them. All this for about £22 a month. Could make a big difference when the fuel pump goes
