window screen

evening all, i hit a pheasant this morning and it smashed my front window rang my insurance there wont pay out cos am not fully comp

one question can i get a second one and have soneone fit it or does it have to be a new one and have autoglass fit? many thanks

I would have thought autoglass would only fit a new screen but your local garage would fit a second hand one, I know mine would.

I used to work for Autoglass. They will fit second hand glass but wont gurantee it. Plus you would be very lucky to get a 2nd hand one as they are bonded in and very difficult to remove without damage.

Your best bet is, if the damage is not too bad and your insurance is due before your next MOT, when you renew the insurance, ask for glass cover (usually about £30 extra) then make a claim just before MOT.

Fitting a windscreen to a fronty is not a DIY job, you need special primers and PUR resin. (It is a stuctural component of the vehicle)

If it any help, I had to get a new windscreen done on my truck a few weeks back for it's MOT...
Rang Autoglass, and had a minor coronary after they quoted me damn near £450 for a new screen. RAC AutoWindscreens however were a *lot* cheaper, coming in at £170 all in.
I know it's still not the cheapest thing, but considering the old screen had several repaired chips in it, I didn't mind *too* much, especially considering the old gal flew through the MOT after that.

I paid £300 on the nose for Autoglass to come out and replace the windscreen on my celica. I couldnt find anyone that would take out a windscreen for love nor money, nor could I find a courier willing to carry glass.

i got a quote from rac £171.40 all in
