PROJECT "FRONTERROR"

Postby stickybunn on Thu Mar 13, 2008 6:57 pm

Right this is the 1st post of the new project that myself and Xdinglep1 are going to build.
Plan was to buy ONE Frontera to build a usefull offroader to use at weekends. Plan was soon to change slightly when Mr Dingle rings me and says he has bought TWO Frontera's........ not a problem as they were both a good price.
One week later we have both organised trailers to go and collect on Saturday just gone from Wales...
Here they are just loaded on the trailers.

Image

The original plan was to use the one with all panels attached as we had been told the lightweight model was a non-runner, but a gallon of fuel and a battery soon fired it into life.
So the plan now is to butcher all of the usefull parts off the donor car and to strip / re-build the other one.
This is going to be a short / longterm project, some of the key features which we are hoping for is:
- Lightweight
- Nice body / suspension lift
- Capable of deep wading etc
I will post updates as and when there is something interesting to read about.
Hope this is of interest and im sure there will be much swearing and wallet emptying on this one.
Steve

Hey, Hey, I heard my name mentioned again.

Good luck guys. It's been quite an up hill struggle for me as I had no Garage or workshop to work in,, so hopefully you got that sorted, or if not, at least summers coming.

The main thing is, go out, have a laugh doing it, then have even more of a laugh using it.

I think admins should open another forum section, named .....

PIMP ME FRONTY

If you doing a complete strip out and going down the pickup truck lines, be aware that there is no weight in the back after you finish butchering it. We estimated after removing the roof, windows, side steps, most of the bull bars, interior panels, and rear seats, we lost around 300lb in weight. No good for deep wading, fronty tends to turn into a boat. After alex fitted a rather large lump of 3mm steel to the back of mine, the rear end seems to have returned to nearly the same point as before.

And don't forget, as Alex pointed out, if you remove the rear roll bar, the one that the rear seat belts attach to, please remember to re fit the 4 bolts on each side at the rear that held the roll bar into place. If you don't theres a good chance your back end my detach from the rest of the car, as these bolts are the mounting points for the body to fix to the chassis.

And don't be suprised when things don't quite go as expected. The frontera is full of little suprises that just like to jump out and bit your ...... :butt:

Cheers for pointing out the roll bar / bolt scenario that could of been embarressing, and just like you unfortunately no we have no use of a garage either !!!
