new project `

Postby muddypluka on Wed Mar 05, 2008 12:59 am

ok so now i have a coil sprung version of the swb
obvious mods
tyre
snorkle
suspension lift ect

few questions?????????????

1st
dislocation cones ( dont tell me they cnt be done )
when fitting them what can i use to give downforce on the rear diff on full articulaion and dislocation
as in when 1 wheel droops out of its spring seat because fronties dont have locking diffs this will cause me a problem through making the lighter wheel spin loosing traction,

2nd
i recon i can loose about ten inches off the back of the truck to create aa greater decent angle and about ten inches off the front to give a greater attack angle ( didnt no the right term) if i remove the anti roll bar what will it do

3rd
whats megasquirt ????????????????????
what do i need to create this system ?????????
how does it work ?????????????

Ten inches off the rear might be more work than its worth ?

Where would the fuel tank go? or are you stripping it out as a toy ?

Just moving the fuel tank inside and remove the bumper, towbar ect will increase departure angle.
You wont get anything like that of the front wothout some major surgery, will need the radiator moving somewhere ??? and steeering ??

If Ive read he dislocating cone bit right, there aint much you can do to stop a non lsd slipping, but I use heavy duty tie wraps to keep the coils in place, no problems yet, but my anti roll bar limits travel, the removel of the anti roll bar will give more travel to the axle along with other mods there is a thread in suspension section about that somewhere.

Mega squirte I aint a clue lol.

Removal of the anti-roll bar will be an MOT failure.

much apriciated peeps

this wont be road going its a toy just to clarify like me old 1
drift i want the coils to dislocate to give emense travel i will be fitting storps to stop the diff from reaching damper breakaway but is there anything i can add to give extra downforce maybe a small coil on the either side of the diff casing in the centre of the truck the fuel tank is being put behind the seats as well as the batterey and rad putting some weight over the centre of the truck might even add some balast too ill try to save a immage after some editing to show what im thinking ?????
thanks for the info on mega squirt looks interesting
yes im moving the rad from the front and the pipes for the steering but the steering box will be left in place
there are some parts of this project that are going to be very scary to do but i have the urge to give it a try lol

The shockers will limit any drop, so its not beyond scope looking for a spring over shocker that has same extension as the shocker at max extension. then mod to mount in existing shocker mounts. failing that some sort of spring inside, but cant see them giving much downforce.

Good on ya for a beastie.

The extra springs/coils further along the axle would counter act each other so no benefit gained. open longer coils would help (cant remember techi name) Suzuki's use them for mega articulation with huge shocks, but that brings other issues with prop angles and mountings.

One £££££££ option is portal axles front and rear with coil overs on, heavy ,tough and massive, but sadly very expensive.

It might be better getting the weight central on the car, ballast would lower your suspension ride and could lessen articulation.

Or you could go the route Higgi has gone with trooper axles, take a look at planet Isuzu site, that will fill you with ideas .

if you remove the antiroll bars competely it is not an mot failure! if its there, and its at fault then its a fail! if its not there, what can it fail on? theres nothing to fail it on..

have asked the question many times in work due to my own cars failing in the past in silly stuff!

i hope so lol thats the intention

if i can get the back to articulate that much what is the cenario with the front it should just sort of balance our when the front twists the body will twist with it when the back twists the front will just site there am i right ?????????

to be honest chris ...if you want to acheive that kind of articulation you'll be looking at fitting a live axle on the front ....just not sure if it's possible to mod the chassis to accept a coil sprung axle on the front

Sadly no  with independant front suspension the front will just hang .

If you look at this pic you will see my front wheel is just slightly off the ground, since Ive got bigger tyres and a few minor tweaks, it will never be as good as a live axle, but Im happy with the set up Im on with a few more minor adjustments, as the car is mainly for laninmg and road work.

live axles have been looked at but hmmm
ive even looked at using a frontie rear axle on the frotie front lol
this is still on the drawing board to be assessd when the front is chopped to give better aproach angle

oooooooo
forgot to say i can loose 15 inches off the back lol shes really gonna be short lol
and thats keeping the rear diff mounts as standard i did a little sketch type of thingy with paint just to see what she may look like
beware this isnt for the purists lol

Eekk  .. and thats just at the big horn wheel

You cant use the rear live on the front as it would pull in the wrong direction, would be fun to watch though 8)
In reality there would be an almighty grind and bang as a diff collasped as it went the wrong way.

TBH it wouldnt be worth bobbing a sport, just clear the clutter under it would gain the same difference
