Various niggles

Postby Stonker on Tue Mar 04, 2008 3:29 pm

Ok so "Squeak" (as christened by the missus) has been running for a couple of weeks now. I've got a couple of problems to iron out..

First of all the sunroof leaks. I've re-sealed the left-hand hinge attachment as the rubber seal which sits on the glass was warped. This seemed to sort things out for a few days but now it's dripping again! Any ideas where I should look next?

The oil pressure gauge is very erratic, luckily I found the post in the "known problems" section, http://www.fronteraowners.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=6811 but I couldn't see where to find the oil pressure unit. Can somebody kindly tell me where it is?

Thirdly, and I think this has the potential of being a nasty one, the engine management light came on when the missus "didn't see" a speed bump and hit it quite hard.
She also said that it came on when driving normally the day after.
Now I've taken it for a spin a few times and it hasn't come on.
I've read that this can be the start of a major issue and could eventually need replacing. Is there any chance somebody could put my mind at ease?

One of the roof clips is broken and won't fasten completely, there are various bits of trim missing, it needs a couple of tyres and a general clean up.

Other than that, I love the car already. It's noisy, sometimes uncomfortable, it wallows a little, but I love the feel of it. It's a strong and sturdy little thing :) I've had various 4x4s, and not one changes between transmission types as smoothly as this.

Which Fronter is it that you're having these problems with ? (engine size, Sport or Estate, A or B series)

That should help us to help you a little easier.

the oil pressure switch is located below the water pipes on the drivers side of the block right down at the bottom
its a right pig to get to especially with a belly and being short well i say short im 5ft 9 and i still can reach the thing
a tell tale sign of an engine swap is that there is only 1 cable on the pressure switch if this is the case and there is a wire
thus rendering the oil pressure guage inoprative
if the guage is flicking between a quater and 3 quaters on the dial you are low on oil at tickover mine reads just under half and on full revs it reads 3quaters in the morning ill try to find a picture of the pressure guage from when i did my engine swap and post it for you

havent got a clue on the managment light though

Quite easy to work it out, as you mentioned roof clips and oil pressure gauge
