4x4 that drives itself

General Motors (GM), parent company of Luton-based Vauxhall, is working on a driverless 4x4 car which uses electronics to drive unmanned - turning the role of the driver into that of a chauffeured passenger.

The car, nicknamed 'Boss' by GM research and development founder Charles F Kettering, uses a combination of light detection and ranging (LIDAR), radar, vision and mapping systems to see the world around it

After successfully driving itself through a 60-mile urban course in November, the Chevrolet Tahoe won a prestigious U.S.Defence Department-sponsored competition.
