WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!

Spent 5 hours changing my wheels over on my 2.8!!!!,,why 5 hours???......car slipped off the jack while the rear p/s wheel was off!!. So,,,,put the jack under the tow bar stantion, and started merrily lifting away..mmmmmm, i thought,,,,axle is still on the ground,,,,now,,,being a total nooby to Frontys, i had no idea this was going to happen,,,,or should it???. Only one jack, no one answering phones,,,panic stations duly entered into. At last,,, one of my sons answered, even more luckily, the one with a little more mechanical know how than myself

not hard, i have none at all,lol.
Loads of maneuvering jacks, many pieces of wooden chocks and axle stands, copious amounts of ** * * taking and suggestions of "sell the f$%^*&G pile of pooh", and 4 hours later, job done, looks awfully spiffing now with new wheels on, just gotta get up the courage now to drive it again without worrying the frigging axle is gonna come off!!!!. So 2.8 is off the road until, i can find out if this is normal, or i have to scrap it

There is a huge amount of travel in the rear axle on Fronties (or any 4x4 like it) I would be surprised if the axle would lift ... especially as the axle would naturally articulate (rotate) as you lifted it under the towbar. I personally when taking wheels off the ground get a jack, axle stand, and a spare wheel. Put a spare wheel under the sill as close to the arch as possible. This is a safety thing more than anything else in case the truck did fall off the jack and stand. At least the entire weight of the truck won't land on your foot. Jack up the wheel under the axle until the wheel is clear, then shove the stand under it and lower back onto the stand. I then keep all three there until the job is done. I also wear steel toecap boots for this very reason.

If your shocks are attached and the drop links the axle will only travel a certain distance then stop.

i didn't put the jack under the tow bar to change wheel, i put it there to get the body up while i tried to lift the axle :wink:

Drift, the axle did only travel a certain distance till it stopped,,,,,,it was the floor that stopped it dropping any further

I was hoping someone would post "its ok mate, Frontera rear axles are not fixed to the body like normal cars" and you can carry on driving it as normal.

They will drop till the anti roll bar drop links are fully extended but an axle could well snap them, also the shock absorbers will be the other thing that stops them when they reach full stretch.

Well today I fitted the 85 degree thermostat and then cleaned out the mud from the drain holes on the door so that should stop them rusting at the bottom.
I then fitted new nylon seat covers to the front seats, and found a big piece of metal sticking out the back of the seat, dunno what that is so ignored it. .
After that I moved onto the Picasso and checked fluids and changed headlight bulbs.
Then the she boss had a kitchen door that appeared from somewhere and I had to hang that, now I am having dinner and doing bugger all

Broke the car again :lol:

its only one headlight the tree jumped out in front of me in the woods :lol:

I put some fuel in her, and went for a nice drive...or at least that was the plan. Then I noticed the thick fog. Couldn't see more than 100ft in front of me. Damn. So...went and visited family instead. lol

signed up for next years annual. soaked all bumper mount bolts in wd again

Fitted the new litebar i made at work to the bus, now got 4 55w lamps to help me make sure i dont miss any muddy holes or wayward rocks!!!! will wire them up when i get an hr spare n try n get some pics up. :thumbup:

Fitted accessory remote control central locking kit to the beasty. Ended up with a hybrid of accessory kit and factory fit stuff, but it works like a charm.

Cheers bud. Bloody annoying running around the car locking all the buttons individually every time you get out. Nice just to be able to just zap it shut/open now

Changed the oil pressure sensor
Sorted out rear bumpers ( thank you horse45 )
Put in radio ( thank you horse45 )
Put new exhaust on ( again )
Still not right so will try again tomorrow :roll:

Fount that Strata has broken my roof rack :thumbup:
