its the 5k a year and the fact im under 25 that buggeres it for me... but I got a quote from Adrian Flux (albeit a fake one as Its not due till april) and they quoted me £700 and somthing if I get to keep my NCB (4 years) or if I dont...it'l be about the £1k mark. so either way...not toooooooo bad I guess. Still hope I get to keep my NCB though ( another thread). Both of them are their "platinum" cover so you get brakedown, legal cover, personal injury cover, green laning, offroading, 10k miles a year (of which 5k will be business because I'm a self employed photographer....apparently --- photographer yes, self employed...urm no), ect, ect, ect....not as bad as I thought it was going to be..so thats good ATB Dan

I read the thread earlier today and emailed Frank Pickles, wow got a reply within the hour £111.00 for tpft that's 70 quid less than the previous best quote and that's with oversize wheels and tyres and a 2" lift which I did not reveal to the other insurer as the first quotes I had were over £500 with the mod's
Thanks Lads & Lady for the info much appreciated.

A bit of a twist on the insurance front, if this is not price fixing, what is? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12180025And the OFT have asked them to stop using the software, aww dudums, do you seriously think they will stop just because they have been asked to? What gets me is the fact no real action has been taken

I'm confused.. Ive just got a quote for a 'change of vehicle'.. I'm 39, homeowner, full NCD (on 2 policies) 4 other cars in the house (between me and SWMBO).. Ive currently got a VW Golf V - GTTDi DSG 170 5 door... Insurance was £350 fully comp for me and SWMBO... which I'm looking at chopping in for another car, just had the Clutch / DMF and gearbox replaced by VW (oil filter in gearbox broke up and wrecked it) Ive just called my broker (none of that online thing for me, prefer to talk to a human) about insuring a car I'm looking at..BMW 530d Sport (with the M pack), auto, sat nav, leather blah blah blah - the bells and whistles etc.. and it came in at £244?? Its 3 insurance groups higher than the Golf, 50% bigger engine and 3 times the value.. but its over £100 cheaper per annum to insure.. Which doesnt make sense, my Fronty costs £198 to insure fully comp with 'off roading / green laning' included.. so in summary.. Fronty 2.0 sport - Value £500 - £198 pa fully comp Golf 2.0 diesel - Value £10k - £350 pa fully comp BMW 530d Sport - Value £30k - £244 pa fully comp wierd!
You cant polish a t*rd.. But you can roll it in glitter
if its broken - fix it if it isnt - mod it!

Golf is more likely to be stolen and joyriddwn. Golfs are targetted by the younger generation for many illegal modifications (i.e. non-declared). Golfs are in the infamous hot hatch category.
There lies the issue.

As the post above the quotes don't seem to make much sense on different model's . I have- Merc ML 270d 6 years old fully comp £420 Subaru imprezza 3 years old fully comp £360 And the Frontera's for weekend fun only £111 tft
There's much more chance of me crashing and or killing myself in the scooby than the merc and it's more likely to get stolen yet it's £60 more and 3 years older.
Ok the merc was probably over 30k new and the scooby about 20k so there is a case for a difference there but the scooby is currently worth more, so go figure

Because the Merc is more likely to do more damage to other vehicles in the event of a crash as its bigger and heavier. The potential bill the Merc could caused to third party's vehicles stands a good chance to be a lot more. Also you have to factor in the exclusivness of the Merc compared to the tons of Scoobies on the road.

National speed limit is still 70 mph at the most no matter what speed your car can go.
I think I read somewhere that if in an accident while speeding Insurance companies have the right to refuse your cover.
