Got Sallys 2.8 shorty back in one piece and mobile again...and am well pleased with it...

While it was in bits, I "accidently" removed that 3tonne silencer that lurks underneath favouring a nice length of 2.5" tube instead, and whilst the down pipes were off I reversed flushed the particulate filter with the air line and removed loads of crud...
Warm up butterfly is a gonna, and with a new filter so the other end breathes better too the results are pretty impressive.

It goes really rather well now, much much much faster than my 2.8lwb which has a tweaked pump etc...and much faster than it used to go... :dance:

and it growls quite nicely (I think Sally liked the noise it made, although she gave "the look of disaproval" but this look disapeared quick to be replaced with a grin when it came on boost and took off!)

Its not noisier really, just sounds a lot more beefy now...

Just got a bit of welding to do on one sill, fix a diesel leak on the return pipe somewhere, a minor tweak to the exhaust and its ready for its MOT next saturday...

I found it had a faint growl after the particulate was removed

I gotta a feeling that the air line removed most of the particulate filter as well as the crud... :oops:

so its kinda turbo, empty box, length of tube and then daylight!

My surf used to run a 2ft long exhaust straight off the turbo and out under the drivers door...that was loud, sounded like a Reo (yanky military truck!)...

Put an RS turbo escort exhaust on a XR3i and it will sound like a tractor, as the silencing effect of the turbo is factored in to the design...

Gonna do my 2.8lwb ASAP...well it would be rude not to wouldnt it, and cant have Sal's truck sounding better than mine!

Did you just remove the box and bang a pipe in? Did you have to bend it around to fit?

I just bent the rear part, but only cause that piece of pipe was knackered, and welded the original flanges onto the new pipe, so it just bolts up inplace of the huge box and warm up butterfly..you could just replace the box with a straight bit of pipe though...

Need to add some more hangers though, as a swb has a transfer box mount then one actually on the box itself...I want to add a mount to the straight pipe there as the "up and over bit" that goes over the rear axle is unsupported on the forward side at the mo...

Yes as the box, at least on the LWB has a mount on the chassis.

Shorty is the same Ste....reckon removing that box gives a FREEBEE 1" lift as well...its hooj!

The wife took me to A&E yesterday afternoon in mine as I cracked my neck and pulled the muscles down one side ... now on a three day course of Diazepam and cannot move my neck without agony. All I can say is it hurts like hell and the drugs are making things interesting to say the least ... be prepared for sme interesting posts as I lie here surfing the net on my phone.
