WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!

Fitted the side steps that I bought from Andywright a few weeks ago. Once the holes in the chassis were tapped out it wasn't too bad a job. Managed to get 15 out of 16 in. Good result for me.

At last got to grips with the steering box adjuster which has had excessive play in it since I bought it over a year ago. I must have soaked it with two tins of WD40 over the past few months.The locking nut was siezed to the adjuster. Today I wound it out fully and then gave the nut some serious grief untill it wound off the end of the adjuster. Then I coudn't screw the adjuster back in again. The solution was to use my newly patented Frontera Steering Box Screwdriver. I took a 3 ft. nail bar and ground the kinked end to fit the slot in the adjuster. The kink was just right to bend round the side of the rad The other end of the nail bar is in the shape of a crook and was long enough to protrude above the top of the radiator so I could get some purchase on it. A couple of dainty idiots on the end with my trusty 2 lb. ball pein and we were away. The steering is transformed, I could not believe the difference. Proper job. All in all a good day, now to fit the newly refurbed rear bumpers I bought from Chris2405. :dance:

Got home, Mrs f said 'that's it , it's got to go now, about time you got something sensible, - how about a golf???

new discs all the way round
CV boots both sides - only had them replaced 18 months ago
both lower ball joints and one upper
wheel-bearings inner & outer

those are just the ones off the top of my head, without doing the walk of shame down the garden to the garage to get the rest of the list out the truck.

But it will get fixed, it will get back on the road! I have a socket set, spanners, hex keys, WD40 a bit of brain and plenty of help on here. I will not buy a golf!

Well the way I look at it, all the bits I've listed are fairly easy to source, I've had a look at milner's and they've got everything there. They're fairly big bits and not too fiddly so I'm pretty happy to have a crack at stuff.

One query I do have and I really do welcome feed-back on here.

My rear-diff has always slightly leaked, never masses of fluid, just a bit and now and then. They put that as an advisory on the MOT failure, are they taking the urine?

THink losing fliud is a sort of fail plus higlighting the loss in case you didnt know think it was done as a favour

No, not any more as it will be dripping the black stuff on the road and m/cyclists could go arrse over on it........ Well that's what one of swindons finest traffic plods said to me when he pulled me over for a 'chat' after the turbo died a death and the exhaust was dripping oil at a drip a mile.....

Apart from the cost I wouldnt really worry about the MOT fail items you listed, you pretty much have to take them all off the front to change any of the bits so work wise it's about the same.

When I first got him, nearly 4 years ago, I was a bit unsure of the leak/drip, so I measured it over the weekend, I 'borrowed' a measuring cylinder from work and over the space of 40 hours it dripped out no more than 1.5mL, its certainly got no worse in that time.

But a leak is a leak is leak as they say

.....Also found another really annoying rattle from the rear suspension, turned out to be one of the rear anti-roll bar drop links was loose.

Well, today I thought i better get some paint for Colleys rims!
So i spoke to my work colleague (who is an expert in paint)

I told him what I was doing, and he came up with some good ideas, but what he thought of cost £50 :shock:

Anyway after he saw my face, off he goes and comes back with the new hammerite garage door paint. I told him I wasnt keen on hammerite, as it doesn't give a good finish, and runs like buggery! So he explained how to apply it so it doesnt.
So this evening off I pop into the garage to give it a try! I tried it and its ok, a bit runny when you get it out of the tin but thats good as you can then spread it with the paint brush. Its a bit sticky but ok!

I gave the rims their first coat of black paint, and went back 4 hours later:shock: oh dear Colley!!!!!! :!:
