im sure there will be other members who will say differently and i can only say from my experiences and dabbles with alternative fuels... as as allready been said a replacement pump can now be purchased 2nd hand for around £100.. just bear this in mind.. .

Straight is preferable but the reason its not perfect especially for the 2.8 owners is it deteriorates the seals in the fuel pump and ideally the injectors need recalibrating.

Again, it could cause fuelling problems via the 2.5 ECU.

straight bio it runs fine no loss of power. in the morning take few more turns to go,
straight veg oil (unused) ran fine, although in morning bit rough idle for first few seconds .
used smells lovely but there is side effect of fat if not filtered properly clogs filter with a waxy gel like substance.

when i first used bio it clog up filter due to it clearing crap out as its a better lubricant than diesel after filter change it ran great. so if you do switch buy a filter first as the filter will get choked

OK, from a bit of research it would appear the 2.5 has a VP37 pump which is apparently more tolerant of bio/svo than some of the other Bosch pumps. Is there any point in fitting an inline filter before the main cartridge filter ?? Simiar to the one below ?

At £100 for a new pump it's worth the risk IMO. Not like a Dti where I wouldn't even consider it

All im saying i cant complain i can get bio for 85p a litre or local for 1.09p litre and to be honest you wouldnt notice the diffrence i prefer the bio to the used veg as the used vegs can have more fat n stuff in it like i got. Normal veg oil ie unused aldi do the cheapest at 1.19 a litre i think but you still have to add a wee bit of petrol n diesel to get it to start easy in morning when cold. I have used all of the above and its still running with no issues so far i had the codes reset and egr gasket all done before i switched i have used normal diesel due to running out but tried best to empty tank before filling up.

Im not saying do it i cannot guarantee its early days yet to say if its safe

Rather than an in line filter I would fit an inline heater :wink:

I would still be unsure how the 2.5 injectors would cope with that nasty number one injector issue

Well if the 2.5 dies and its cause of the fuel then well least we know, there is the same risks of faults that happen with normal diesel so i see my chances of 50/50 most issues on here are the injector the egr fuel pumps etc on here

Excuse my ignorance chaps, but isn't the reason the No.1 injector fails that the electronic gubbins attached to it fail, not actually an issue with the injector inself ?

Dose sensor is built into injector no.1 on the VM... :wink:

40 litres of professionally filtered WVO put in the tank of the 2.5 this evening. I don't know if what I am buying is classed as bio or not. The terminology confuses me.
Anyway , the smell out of the back is lovely - I got the munchies after a minute or two :oops:

sadly due to supply issues i have been back on the expensive stuff.
Mind buy a fuel filter as you will choke the filter in the first few miles after the filter change it will be fine

Got a filter today mate. It's coming up to 100 miles so I'll change it in the next day or two

100 mile i got 25 before it started clogging when i first switched after i fitted new filter i had no issues until i got a fat batch. My mate gave me a big barrel and some filter sack things

I have to say it's running as sweet as a nut mate, starts better as well .

Think my engine had lacked service by previose owner mind you i have had oil filter in the back for two months now so im not much better. Aye i found it ran better or was that phycological . How is it with cold starts i found mine took a bit longer few more turns than usual

It's not been really cold to be honest. First thing in the morning the starting is better than before, but the temp is probably no lower than 8 degrees C

Fair point Chris, but it's literally 2 mins down the road, and as I haven't made my mind up on this yet I thought I'd trial it and then go looking for alternative suppliers.

This morning it refused to start. Swapped out the filter primed it and it did eventually fire up. Not sure if it's the oil though as it is sometimes a pig to start first thing in the morning (even on diesel). Especially after rain I've noticed.

I've sent the Mrs off to work in it. I will soon found out if it ain't right
