Well first of all a major big thanks to Andy, Neil, Rob and Stretch for an amazing effort today. Things started off great and within about 15 minutes of arrival, Neil had done the EGR's and removed the birds nest.
A few of the bell housing bolts gave us a bit of trouble but with a U/J and almost 2 meters of extension bars they were freed. a couple of the captives on the cross member snapped but mr grinder sorted them.
The gear box split with relative ease and was moved backwards only to reveal that someone had already welded the DMF and used a trooper clutch leaving my nice shiny new frontera clutch rather redundant.
The decision was mad to completely remove the gearbox for cleaning as the old clutch was completely disintergrated to laughable proportions.
At this point Neil made the unfortunate discovery that the Flywheel was cracked and badly uneven which had caused the clutch destruction so we decided to remove it ready for when I get a new / second hand one, and to facilitate fitting of a new cranck seal.......4 hours, many swear words and fewer knuckles later, the old DMF hit the deck and after clear up, the lads all went on their way homewards, 11 hours after we started the job.
Again, big thanks to the boys and a super duper one to Maria for keeping us fed and watered all day and putting up with 6 rednecks swearing n farting on the driveway.
On a positive note, I've just had a phone call from the one and only Gregster who has sorted me out with another DMF....top bloke
Keep your eyes peeled for the Essex spanner party part 2 to put it all back together again
