109p ltr for bio

i could get 80 litres of veg at 60p a litre but dunno

New filters and hoses and seals and an ECU freaking out, might get a few miles though :lol:

Still running Bio in both Freelander and Frontera 2.8.

Freelander: 8 months and 7000 miles, changed fuel filter after first month and no issues encountered

2.8: 12 months, milage unknown, regular servicing and no issues

Spoke to they guy who makes the Bio earlier this week about what additives he uses, he adds a cetane improver all year and from last week an anti waxing agent ready for winter

so are you saying bio diesel is ok in 25tds

if so where do i get some

Im not saying its fine all im saying is mine is running fine but its early days

i did full tank 240 miles on 85% veg oil and a mixture of diesel and petrol had to add the petrol and diesel as it was running rough due to a bad batch had fat in it changed filter running fine.

240 miles on a full tank Stu ? When you say bad batch, are you now putting used oil in or are you still putting new stuff in ?

It was used veg oil this time not bio diesel wasnt till after had issue we saw the fat at bottom of the big container.

Was that used unfiltered veg oil then ? Just trying to get my head around all this as I'm getting a 2.5 at the weekend and might give it a try.

Bio is different from WVO (Waste Veg Oil) Bio fuel has been industrially filtered and cleaned and the water and all the animal fats removed it is also full of additives to enhance combustion and compatibility to a lot modern engines.
WVO is basically from the Chippy/Restaurant or where ever and cleaned mostly at home.
Techniques vary from pouring the WVO through a 50 micron filter then settling and then a 10 micron filter, this removes the bigger fat particles but plenty gets through along with absorbed water.
The way most basic water filtration working is a tap to bleed off the WVO a few inches above the bottom of the barrel and the water will sink to the bottom, so periodically it needs cleaning.
WVO is a very labour intensive and messy procedure and the cost gets more the more sophisticated your filter set up is and duel tanks in the car with extra pre heat systems, the oil is getting harder to obtain and even though its second hand the price is increasing as big commercial companies are buying it all up to use for Bio fuel.

So you have to ask your self, do you want a fuel in your car that will still contain animal fats and water? (yes some diesel can contain water but know where near the quantity of WVO)

Considering the VM is also ECU controlled I would be very very wary.

you can put the bio staright in the tank,, its advised to carry a spare fuel filter with you tho for the first 100 or so miles as the bio will remove all the dirt and crap from your tank and fuel lines and clog the filter pretty quick.. once youve changed the filter tho u should be fine.. allways pays to keepa spare filter handy anyway

Will SVO go straight in as well ?

new cookin oil from the likes of aldi/lidl and so one will go in and itll run fine on it,, probs seem to arrise from the dirty old chip shop oil that hasnt been filtered correctly... prob is the goverment sussed onto the new cookin oil thing pretty quick and hence the cookin oil aint much cheaper than noraml deisel now. i know of a few guys running 2.5tdis on bio with no issues AS YET !!!! ive done a lot of lookin in to this and it does seem to be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other,, . there are other alternatives but ill pm u the info lol
