What should i do?

The main fault is common to the model, there is a fix if your capable with a soldering iron or there are places to send the clocks off to be fixed.
As said above all cars develop faults and some cant be a right pain or expense to fathom but on this occasion all the info is available to fix the fault.
The fault costs not much more than a mini service to fix.

i can see what your saying i wont swap and change when a problem comes up but i was just trying to think is it worth spending money on ?
i no if i sell and buy some thing else i could end up worse off but the main thing that worries me is how many problems these 2.2 tend to have
i have the 2 of them manifold and clocks they dont stop me driving it now its deveolped this starting problem its made me think do i spend out do a full service in hope that will cure the starting problem replace the manifold sort out the clocks then what next ?
as i said in a earlier post it tends to smoke alot im worried about it passing the mot on the emissoins side of things just dont want to throw a few hundred quid more at for something more major to break just down the line as if the head was to go etc i cant afford to spend out to fix it

what engines will fit in these? just in the case the worst did happen what sort of price would io be looking at ?

Hi. OK I have just spent the last hr testing the 3.2 clocks and as I thought they work perfectly. Like I said before the only difference between the clocks is the dial face (rev counter). I took photo's of my clocks (with engine running) and the other clocks and the readings are exactly the same, I then drove with them in and used my sat-nav as a mph test and the results were the same. I am confident that the clocks would sort you out. I will even post them to you, you try them and if they work then pay for them if not send them back. If you want to pm me with your address and a contact number, I will even talk you through the fitting process if you want. The odometer reading was 84837. Let me know what you want me to do?

Right im keeping it just dont think i would be happy if i got rid of it

i have been phoning round most of the day to get prices on the manifold and just cant get one and nearly everyone has sent me back to vx for the part
so have popped round corner to local garage he is on the good garage scheme thing and its now booked in for next week to get the manifold replaced very nice bloke and very fair aswell
cost more than i wanted to pay for the part but what can you when i just cant find a second hand one :evil:

at least thats another thing that can be ticked of the list im hopeing in the next 6 months to have it running right and should have most of the problems sorted :dance:

so will be sticking around with my money pit :lol:

I was offered one off a 2.2 petrol not long after I got mine for £25 as well. Doh! :wall:

well it good to no that they will go in

yes you can run the 3.2 clocks in the 2.2, but not the other way round

My clocks stopped 4 years ago, I could take it out solder it but Id rather be out driving it

As for the keeping it decision id say YES. My clocks stoped at 164000 this was on my mot cert 4 yrs ago,as it does wrk very ocasionally it does now read 166,000. i do at least 25,000 a year, i did have a 2nd car for a while, but I did still drive the fronty every day to work etc. So my car has ddefinately done at least 220,000 miles for sure but I think its more like 240-250,000.

Since changing the fuel pump at 110,000 miles and changing the clutch at prob 180,000 I havent had any major faults. The clutch I did over a weekend myself so only cost £90

I do however have every niggling little fault going. From the alarm not working, reverse lights not working etc etc. if its electrical it probably doesnt work. but it does add to the character to the car. Touch wood the engine and gear box is still good. Most of the time if there is something wrong it can be sorted with help from on here and a few spanners. I can honestly say its the best car I have ever had! Once you have sorted your manifold I am sure you will have thousands of trouble free miles!

This is just my account of ownership, it was my Dads car, originally an ex demo so I know its history very well.

How's the fronty now you have a new manifold? Has it sorted out the starting issues?

its alot quiter now but still has a funny whistle noise?
as for the starting it hates the cold dont no why but anything under 4 degrees uits takes 3 atemps will see how it gets on now the manifold done as got it back today so will see over the next few mornings then will have to start banging my head up the wall to try and figure out why :lol:

well i think that it is i have had enough of it yet again the stupid thing wouldnt start this morning??????
again dropping me right in it i just cant be bothered with it now have spent enough and just cant afford to spend any more have maxed the credit cards out now aswell
