Piece of 55mm dia pipe, hammer, heat... Beat the end down until it fits the 50mm section and then weld.
Easier to do if you can get a former into the 55mm pipe, beat the pipe onto that and then more importantly get it out after... But do-able without.
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ) Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... Reading everyone's comments is very reassuring, but something has come to mind. Not having a catalytic on the exhaust system is an instant fail on an MOT, right? As I am due one soon Unless there's something about the 2.8's exhaust system I'm unaware of. ?

I dont think not having the cat is illegal. You can get a cat bypass kit. Although most people, will refit the cat come mot time. My v6 is on Gas, & as the mot should be tested as presented, then if its running on gas it should be tested on gas. I know, i wouldnt have any emmisions issues, therefore if my cat goes i wont be in a hurry to shell out for new ones. i would probably just put on a straight pipe & do away with it. I had a Porsche turbo before my black V6, i spent a few quid getting it tuned to the moon. I completely removed the cat. It was always run on Super unleaded. Come mot week i would add injection cleaner, then an octane booster the night before, & take it for a thrash 20mins before. when i turned up @ station ,the car was roasting hot. Never ever was picked up for any emmisions or lack of cats. There are a few tricks out there. You pays your money & take your chances

2.8 doesnt have a cat, just a particulate filter...there is no reason why it needs one for mot.

Whats one of those??? Truck lost that years ago when the birds nest and other 'spare' bits were removed. No problems with emissions on any MoT it's been in for. O-no's one will be headed for the bin as well once I gets round to cutting the pipe up and making a section to replace it.

If a car has a CAT or Particulate Filter fitted from factory it is a fail in the MOT if it is missing. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 1-2014.pdfEDIT: Just read that only seems to refer to Class 4,5 and 7 vehicles. Could be wrong though. I was always under the belief that if it passes emissions you are fine.

If your car is pre 94 petrol and pre 2000 diesel you can remove the cat but dpf has to stay but dpf's didn't start coming about until 2001
