Actually Fudge...I nudged my mates rangerover from the m2 bridge over the medway, up the hill and off the a229 junction and to a filling station when he ran out of fuel...he phoned me when it spluttered and died, so I moved in behind and pushed him before he ground to a halt...That was the only time that car ever got hot, but then in fairness it was pushing 2 tonne and its own weight and had no air flow whatsoever...didnt overheat though...pukka engine in that.

Personally, while a reasonable idea I do think that making everyone get out the middle lane and into the left hand lane is going to increase accidents rather than reduce them, or it will untill such time that the overall driving skills in this country catch up with the vehicle performance and amount of traffic out there. The problem isnt lane hogging as such, the problem is more like idiots who don't seem to think that the 70mph limit actually applies to THEM... but instead just throw the thing down the road through traffic at silly speeds.

The inner lane is generally full of trucks plodding between 55 to 60 (give or take), caravans being dragged along by a car at anything between 40 thru to 60 plus and Granny scared stiff at 30mph. Your now going to mix this lot up with cars doing anything up to 70+ Now, while it wasnt very good before with them hogging the centre lane at least they were going in a straight line (ish) now we will have them weaving in and out of the two lanes as they catch p the slower trucks etc, move out to the centre lane and then back in and so on.... The danger being a complete failure to use their mirrors before making the manouver and relying on that accident prevention device the indicator (sometimes) to clear all traffic and often put on midway thr the manouver.

Of course, if everyone actually OBEYED the max speed limit then it would be a much safer road.

On an aside.... If the max LEGAL speed limit in this country is 70mph why does the Govt allow motor/motorbike manfacturers to sell vehicles that can exceed that limit? By allowing that sale, could it then be argued that the Govt are complicit in the offence of speeding and are, to a reasonable extent encouraging it being commited. Further could the offence on detection be subject to a direct defence of entrapment... ??? Just a thought...
