Just touching on insurance claims - we had somebody back into our Focus last year and the party involved admitted liability and gave her full insurance details. A mate of mine is the body shop manager in our local Ford main dealers. I duly followed his advice to put the claim directly through the offending persons insurance company and not mine so as not to register a non fault claim on my policy.
Worked well, car repaired at my choice main dealer (so my mate could oversee the repairs) and no problems with courtesy car whilst the work was being done. No problems with being asked for excess premium payments and then having to argue for refunds either.
Of course, I will tell my insurance company at renewal time so as not to risk giving them a bolt hole further down the line.
