Did you have the `box in gear & rock the crankshaft with a spanner to align the splines,as they need to be correctly orientated in a rotary as well as linear relationship

Had it in gear and used the rear prop to align the splines by turning the prop. I assumed this would do the same job

Yep that would do it,How far short of fitting is it ?

the only thing i can think of is the plate is not lined up properly

might be worth getting an aligning tool halfords do one cheap enough

Have a look around the outside of the clutch cover and you should be able to see the clutch plate sandwiched between the cover and the flywheel. If you work your way round you can tell if you can see the same amount all the time.
If you see more of it at some parts than you can at others, its out of alignment.
This is what I do if I dont have a tool at hand. Works all the time.

Also make sure you tighten the cover down evenly. Opposite bolts.

just one other thing you did put the plate in the right way round

they use to be marked with flywheel side on the side that goes against the flywheel

I machined an aligning tool when we fitted Si`s clutch,you are welcome to borrow it,but as I have a bad gut bug it will need collecting

Just need to put all the little things back on like exhaust and crossmember etc........ Could of finished it off today but its been raining heavy and me and Rich was soaked through so will finish it off on Friday when i am off work See you then mate
