Just to get back on topic ...
 The numbers you are usings as "Membership" numbers are unique to yourself, and in such I cannot "re-sync" them, as they are used for all sorts of relational database interactions across the site. As Berine clears out the deadwood, then the count of active members goes down, so while we have 6k-ish "members" listed, our actual user database is nearer 8k (hence your numbers), and that doesn't even count the ones that don't make it through our signup process ...
