The steering wheel "assister" as opposed to knob ( calm down ladies) has the virtue of making short work of big or huge steering wheels, but an off road car .. totally my opinion, the wheel is not that ungainly or big enough or even angled enough t cause a problem.
The reason the " big wheelers " used them was to save reach originally as tilt and slide steering wheels where a rarity in trucks coaches and buses until recently.
My feeling on lanes using the " assister"
is it numbs the experience through the wheel, also if the wheel jerked it could take out your wrist, not just a finger or thumb, dependant on how the devise was held.
