Anyhow, what exactly does removing that lot entail? I'm assuming they have a function?

Well yes they have a function, but all EGR and quick warm up. If you loose the EGR's and 2 flappy paddles for the Quick warm up then its all useless.

One pipe from the alternator (vacuum source) needs blanking, then the small one from the inlet to the fuel pump need blanking after the T peice near the fuel pump, rest go in bin. Tape up the leccy connectors so they dont get shorting and its all done.

No ecu to get upset and go into limp home mode either, it runs better without them.

You can loose them all without physicaly removing the EGR's and flappy paddles as long as you blank the pipes to them as they are all default to normal running if disconnected from the vacuum (egr closed, flaps open)

See how I did that without moving my lip :lol:

Well, A friend turned up tonight bearing a new rear tailgate I purchased from the Midlands from ColinMk1 and its the same colour as mine :dance:

Well after a beer, its fitted and fits a treat, so no more knackered hinge or the fear of the tailgate falling off :oops:

Vaguely on topic, I looked at my new tailgate again

I havent done it yet, but today warming up to do drivers wheel bearing, loosen arb mounts, put another bolt in the exhaust, anything else that looks bust.

Mine has now been rebadged back to a 2.8TDI from the 2.2 16V badge that was on the new tailgate, did a bit of tidying and fitted the tail gate card and original lock barrel jobs a goodn :drink:

Had a neighbour ask me today how much of my car was still original :oops:
