A Vulcan Bomber Tribute

That is one plane that i'm regretting not seeing. Heard it about 2 years ago when it was at RAIT but didn't see it. Got tickets for the following year (2014) but it didn't go.

What an aeroplane - stole the show, literally. It arrived a few minutes and could be seen up around Beachy Head jockying for position as the Seaking helicopter was finishing it's stint with lifting guys of a lifeboat in the main display area. It's got it's own unique roar, commontator said it is something to do with the same pair of engines on each wing sharing the same single air intake.
It's a real shame the Vulcan is having to be grounded on an air worthiness technicality. Apparently they've got bundles or spares but not the support to have it's air worthiness licence renewed after this year. Fella was saying British Aerospace, Rolls Royce and another company arn't going to renew their support to enable the Vulcan to get the ticket required.
So from October this year, that's it. Apparently 25 more shows to do, but alas none in the South if the commentator had his facts right.

I made a special effort to go to the Swansea Air Show this year just to see the old girl flying for the last time, well worth the trip only wish I could have made it to a few more shows this year. It looked and sounded as awesome as I remembered from my younger days

Keep your eyes open today guys, it's taking off at 1p.m. from Doncaster and doing a round robin flypastt as part of its farewell flight. Waddington down to North Weal by 1.15 then around North Kent 13.25 onto East Kent just before turning just before 2ish. Dunsford out over Hampshire then Bristol up over Gloucester. Up over Brize . Go on the site and check out what time over your area before it's too late

Anybody else catch the Channel 4 programme 'The Vulcan Last Flight' last night. Started at 7.30p.m. with Guy Martin presenting. Worth a view if it can be viewed via 'catch-up' download etc.
Didn't realise that there is another Vulcan with running engines. 6333 or something similar and they do power it up to full throttle and thunder down a runway but throttle back and lift the nose before applying the air brakes so it doesn't lift off.
Put the cold war into perspective when they interviewed one of the pilots from it's active service. Explained that every Vulcan squadron had to a Vulcan primed ready to go with a 5 tonne nuclear bomb loaded. When the call came in that the Russian missiles were on their way, the Vulcan bombers would be scrambled with the intentions to be airborne out of harms way when the missiles hit, The Vulcans would head for a designated target to give them a piece back. The pilot also explained that there is no coming back because there wouldn't be anything left to come back to and the advice was to carry onto Mongolia and hopefully find a Mongolian woman to spend the rest of their days with.
Like I said earlier in the post well worth a view if you can drawn in back.

I saw it and learnt a lot, having the pilot speak was brilliant.

The whole program was a great tribute, Wellesbourne runway is where they do the taxi runs.

When they did the filming with the Blades at Sywell they flew over where i was working twice, absolutely awesome site.
