well the new box section sills are now in place and welded - nearly tidied up just need a little body filler along the top edge and then some paint or similar(!) - pics to follow when (finally) complete.

on the plus side I have a nice welders tan on my arms!!!

So got some new boots fitted yesterday. Well chuffed as got them at a bargain price at just £420 fitted for 4 general grabber at's in 265 70 17.

Found a silicone hose to replace my split inlet pipe, had to relocate the IAT sensor to the top of the air box.

Replaced my handbrake cable. What a pig of a job trying to get it over the petrol tank. I would of dropped it but its full and didnt fancy trying to get it back on by myself

Took the lower sump plate off the girlfriends Ford Explorer and found this:

That will be bits of the plastic guides for two of the four timing chains blocking the pick up pipe.

With some rummaging and removing the upper sump plate pictured we found the sprung steel tensioner plates for said two chains all torn apart and swimming around the lower half of the block.

Started to disconnect every thing on the 2.8 shorty ready to pull gearbox and engine and axels before it gets scrapped

Lunchtime Oxford area Glass monthly meet up followed by some lanes in the Wantage / Berkshire Downs areas.

The lanes were pretty scratchy in places, a small puddle of mud was encountered and quickly overcome but other than that all of them very dry and dusty due to the hot weather. Truck did not need dragging out this time!

New MOT yesterday with no faults

Was worried but shouldn't have been i guess,

the print out shows less than 1000 miles for 373 days since last MOT which it passed previously with no advisories.

with the amount of time and parts this year i have replaced or "improved" if i Include price of fuel and tax, i reckon the running cost per mile is worse than a Ferrari :oops:

Was going to change the front hubs on the D2, drove it into the garage and discovered the N/S/R half shaft oil seal was leaking so drove it back out and parked it up.

I have been given 2 sets of front hubs direct from a large LR parts supplier. D2 front hubs are non-serviceable, when the wheel bearing goes you have to replace the complete hub assembly :!:

Apparently they have a batch of hubs that are fitted with the incorrect ABS sensor rings (either too many or not enough teeth). This causes a fault and the ABS/TC lights come on. They have asked if I can fit a pair of hubs to see if fitting a pair stops the fault showing, if this doesn't work then I have the OEM hubs to fit instead

So instead I spent the day working on the Frontera

1. Finished off the rear end wiring. now have number plate lights, interior light and the fuel gauge works

Fuel gauge was a total PITA, eventually traced it to a break in the main wire about 2" from the fuel tank gauge :!:

2. Cleared out al the crap from inside
3. One of the rear springs had popped off its lower seat so jacked it up and reseated it
4. Made and painted some spring clamps to clamp the springs to the axle mounts to stop 3. happening again
5. Repaired the winch earth lead
6. De-stickered the front and rear windows
7. Re-fitted the drivers seat and seat belt
8. Fitted 1 of the new sunvisors I bought from Greg

Had a dream I was doing a regular service on a 2.0 shorty, then a valet inside and out... but I woke up before I could take it for a drive, then realised I didn't have one :cry:

Fitted my rear spring retainers

Did some more of the auxiliary wiring in the centre console, most bits are working but not happy with the hardwire kits for my phone and tablet so will be redoing these tomorrow night

Been out to south Wales today sourcing panels to replace my somewhat scabby ones. Successful mission, too.

Came back with 2 straight and rot-free wings plus a full set of rust free doors, complete with glass, regulators, etc.
All for the princely sum of £120, so a bit of a bargain there I feel
