WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!

Made a start on doing the axle swap on my newly acquired 2.8 lwb, changed the oil on the new axle, made some new brake lines for it seeing as it's easier while it's off the car, removed all the cut off bits from the donor car and got it all ready for fitting.

Started undoing the old axle but it's all very seized after 19 years so will attack it again another day

Finally got Truck through it's MOT and Taxed.... :party:

Well last night after work me and liam got the old axle undone and removed, and the new axle in place with some orange springs on it. This morning I finished off the drivers side (arb link, hand brake, foot brake, panhard bar, trailing arm bolts etc) made a start on the drivers side, got the handbrake sorted but then ran out of time so will finish it off another day. Didn't get as much done as I wanted (re what p#ssed you off today thread) but hay, the hard part is done now, it's sitting on its own 4 wheels again now and seems to be about 2" taller with the new springs

Saterday did the lower left ball joint and front right lower shock mount (loose). Sunday removed rear wheels to do the handbrakes. Took it down today for it's WOF (mot)and passed all clear. Now good for another 6 months. Must say how nice it is to work on a car with no rust

New flexi pipe arrived, fitted and bled up and took it for a rip down the village. Starts, goes (fairly well for a untuned 2.8 ) and stops as it should. Now I'm sorting out the exhaust leak in the engine bay as it stinks inside the cab, going to modify it while I'm at it :twisted:

then refit the side step properly and raise the front up to match the rear

Got the front brake sorted out and finished getting the hub all back together after doing the O/S front wheel bearing. What a bar-steward to get the shaft pulled forward enough to get the circlip back on. Reckon it must have been down to the new bearing races needing pulling in a tad to give the 1mm required. Ended up using a relatively narrow bar across the face on the hub and pulling the shaft with a 8mm bolt which done the trick. Being a thin bar, I could get behind it with the circlip pliers. Only downer was that I couldn't find my battery charger to give the battery a boost to start the truck so that I could have given it a trial run. That'll have to be tomorrows job because the charger came out of hiding right at close of play for today.

Truck.... Watched the contents of the Cooling System pour down the drain in the Carpark.... Got it home (just round the corner) now looking forward to tommorrow and finding where the leak is. Me thinks this engine's coming out again a bit sooner than planned.

Managed to renew the antifreeze on my truck, got it to -32 degrees. Hopeing to change the antifreeze on Chrissy's truck tomorrow. Hope this bad weather brings some snow!!!!!!

Fitted an emergancy Ford (Japanese origin) serpentine pulley and Gates belt to keep the GF mobile. Promptly got annoyed with the irritating rattle/knock coming from the pulleys. Have spent about 4.5 hours researching parts online and reading a 3.2 workshop manual (7000pages) on an iphone wanking doesn't make you blind. Iphones do.

Spent the afternoon/evening with the truck. Got the drivers side top bj done, ended up just cutting the heads off the bolts because the nuts were so rusted I couldn't get a socket to grip them well enough. Fitting the new one I decided to flip it, put the wheel on with 2 bolts to check the angles and the wheel was sat like this looking at the front \--| so I made 2 3mm shims and added them to the top control arm, it's dam nearly vertical now, I tied a nut to the end of some string and held it against the top edge of the tyre just forward of the bulge at the bottom and it was only like 1mm out so good enough for me

Then I was going to do the wheel bearing too but I got side tracked and ended up resculpturing the passenger side of the slam panel as it was damaged where a bollard got in the way of the truck for a previous owner

. Got the headlight level with the grill and bonnet again so looks normal from the front, the slam panel however looks like something you'd find on a banger car

. It's amazing the different uses for ratchet straps lol

Still to do, wheel bearings (both sides), top bj passenger side, re-shim the passenger side front wheel, oil change, remove most of the birds nest leaving enough so that when I press that funny engine button it revs up the engine but nothing else, tweak the pump, buy and fit a boost gauge, tweak the boost and finerly tweak the pump again, oh and swap some doors over, and refit the drivers side running board. By the time I've got all that done I should be just about ready to enjoy my 76th birthday! :roll:

Paid for 6 months road tax. Still seams a bit of a rip off as they don't spend enough on repairing our roads!

Vehicle tax is just a tax. Was for the construction and improvement of our road system, but now it is just a tax. Often used to force people to buy more fuel efficient cars.
