supurb pictures. Seeing it solo it dosn't look so big till you see it in flight with other aircraft. I still havent had a chance to see it for real :oops:

That's a shame Kees, it really is. its a sught to behold and as lawrence says it sounds like nothing else on the planet.
Had the good fortune to see it at Farnborough this year, first time in years.

My take on the funding things is that it's not all about raising the extra money, but that spending it may not actually help.
The airframe is old and running out of fatigue life, and the Trust is running out of parts and engines. The work she needs is expensive and is a kill or cure thing - if it doesnt work the aircraft might be permanently unflyable anyhow.
I'll just be doing my best to watch her this coming year.

Got talking to my nearly son-in-law tonight regarding this old bird and he was saying they see the Vulcan quite alot flying it's circuit around RAF Waddington near Lincoln. He was saying it's based near Humberside somewhere and said is quite an impressive sight with the loud sound and amount of exhaust smoke that it produces.
There is a non flying Vulcan at one of the entrances to RAF Waddington, which apparently was the Vulcan squadron base when they were operational.

... maybe - just maybe ...... There is a rumour going round that they are now planning to do the wing work to keep her going until 2015, rather than finish this year.

But as with all things to do with the Vulcan- it's subject to the usual fundraising?

Some good news with regard to the Vulcan she test flew on Saturday (8th Feb) - apparently over the South Lincolnshire area ......

Hopefully it might make the display circuit again this year.

Son in law heard through the RAF sources that they are indeed persuing with the long term repairs to keep the Vulcan flying :thumbup:

Apparently, word was that the figure involved was £250,000, hence the original decision to ground it in the first place.

Sad news...its done more hours etc that any other one, so I guess the "unknowns" present massive issues, and the engines are over hours too I think...gutted as its a lovely bird...

Booked my ticket for Throckmoton airshow on the 6th June, will probably go to Welshpool as well.

The Throckmorton tickets have been arranged with the Volvo Owners Club - £10/car, upto 3 passengers free (perhaps they knew about my 7 seats)

Be sure I'll be taking photos.

Saw it today doing it's fly past at Duxford.
Been up daughers in Cranwell and got told it was doing fly passers at both Duxford and Waddington as part of the Military Commemoratives ceremonies this weekend. The choice was 3.30p.m. at Waddington or 2p.m. at Duxford. As the wife didn't want to be to late before we got back home opted for the 2p.m. Duxford. Left Cranwell at 12.45p.m. thinking we'd just make to Duxford, but unfortunately the A14 stretch between the A1 and M11 was slower moving than we'rd hoped and got to Duxford at 2.05p.m. to see the Vulcan flying overhead. Turned off the A1 J10 and headed towards Duxford to see it fly overhead 3 more times as we hunted for somewhere to pull over. Caught the last glimpses as we pulled off the road.
Been told it's Rolls Royce that have pulled out from supporting the engine maintenance which has forced the issue of this being the last officical flying year.

Well the old birds confirmed as flying at Southport airshow on Saturday 19th September (subject to weather).

Anybody going?

With the ongoing notices that this is the last year, anybody thinking about it really ought to make it somewhere, time is running out.
I'm off the Eastbourne today, the Vulcan is scheduled for 2.30p.m. Believe it's doing a fly past at Headcorn earlier in the day.
