No need to cut it Greg. The boot stretches enough to slide over the wide part of the stick.
Also the Frontera sticks are in line. I would do as I have done and just flip it upside down. My main issue was the sticks are offset hence using the old one on the 4wd selector, and having to cut and shut the Frontera one I was donated.
I think also flipping it inside out will be a chore asit will be constantly working against the way it was moulded. That could make it stiffer and therefore not give the gears full movement.
Obviously without trying we will not know for certain ... Either way I am happy with the results and it is so much quieter in the cab now, what with that and adjusting the tappets, and replacing the worn idler pulley bearing.
I cannot imagine how quiet it will be once I have put all new under padding and carpets back in
