Sighed heavily as I trudged to the train station to commute to work this morning, leaving my truck sat on the drive. Trying out a new 'lifestyle', which - given some TLC and a fresh MOT in January/February, and if I can stick catching the train to work everyday - might see my truck becoming a play toy rather than daily driver.

This does not mean it's going to end up like fudge's did (much to his annoyance

) - it's going to be MY toy, if I keep it on the road that is! Anywhichway though, this'll give it a good rest from the high mileage I've been putting on it - just shy of 170k on the clock, from 156k when I bought it 6 months ago

Fun times ahead for sure...

Mine has sat for near two weeks and not moved, and the last week has had about an inch of frost over it all day and night. Then today on the first frost free day I thought I best see if she starts....4 seconds on the key on the first glow.... geerrrrowl , she burst into life with no complaints :dance:

Likely close to next year before she gets started again :oops:

I really need to get out laning more :angel:

Had a wee cooling (or not as the case maybe) moment with the truck during the week when the temp gauge headed up past the halfway mark and well on it's way the top mark. Not normal for the truck and not good for a 2.8

Matters were sort of resolved on the roadside at the time with 2 ltrs of best ditch water via the tea flask (ditch water was filtered through some blue roll stuff before it got in the header tank) with a planned investigation and resolution for Sat. Saturday came, as did the Father & Mother in Law.... as for looking at the truck, Father in law keen but MiL & OiC Home Front was having none of it so that was one job that had to roll over to Sunday in consideration of a peacefull day.

Now, finally managed to get a look at it. Drained the system off, well 'yuck' via the wee drain thing near the pressure gauge switch (dead easy to undo as well, no problems at all, think the ditch water was the cleanest part of it tbh.

Unhooked the rad and removed that so I could flush it through all proper like, that took ages before the brown horrible mess changed to nice clean water. Also flushed the dead flies, mud and bits of rambler out of the fins as well, but while the rad is now clear I don't think it's going to last long as the right hand end of it is well bulged and the fins are hanging off. New one needed me thinks....

All re-assembled and new coolant put in. No leaks (which was amazing :thumbup:

) going to take it for a test drive after tea, see how it goes.

First drowning of the brake caliper bolts with
penetrating fluid in readiness to free up
the caliper and fit new pads.

Started getting ready for MOT, Frontera has been parked up since early November

Fixed side light front and rear, repaired front indicator lens, replaced drivers door mirror and gave it a check over to see what's needed. So far we have

2x front shocks
1x CV gaiter
1x Steering idler (yes I've bent it again!)
Strip rear brakes, clean mud out and adjust handbrake
Replace clutch pedal assembly (long story, hopefully the bulkhead will not need welding)

Shocks already on order, will order steering idler tomorrow along with 2 new steering arms and hopefully get it to the MOT station this week so I can go out and play over Christmas

Removed and stripped both rear calipers. Thoroughly cleaned and refurbished both calipers.

Performed the necessary soul selling ritual to the Great Arch-Devil Isuzu and put it all back together again with new seals, pads, disks, handbrake cables, and complete fluid flush/replace, then adjusted everything.

My ritual obviously appeased the Hell-Spawned one as everything works better than ever. I gently applied the brakes this morning and locked the front wheels up ... and the handbrake HOLDS THE TRUCK ON HILLS!!!!! :shock:

Sounds like the ritual of tracking down one of the bearinators might have to start Rob

I have access to one and a workshop to do it in

I don't think the rear bearings are a mammoth amount of money Rob - it's the agg involved in pulling the old ones out (bearinator) and a bit of heat if I remember reading the associated posts correctly.

Thing is Pete ... there are a lot of things that Rob needs to get done to get it to his standards. He would be better off I believe in saving the money and buying another truck that is clean and to the level he is happy with. It would also give him a spare truck to abuse off road without a care.

are there any trucks cleaner than robs ? rear bearings aint expensive but me and fudge failed trying to extract them on 2 different rear axles with the fog bearinater :roll:
