Redundancy Looming

After go back to work after the annual meet i was informed by my employers (Local Authority) that they are reducing the numbers jobs in my role

I have been informed there are other jobs within the local authority however there is approximately 160 jobs available with approximately 500 employees wanting the positions

I have been searching the job pages over the last few days and have a couple of jobs i want to apply for however my CV is out of date and needs some work. I am just wondering if someone has a modern template CV as i need to impress :lol:

I have looked on the Internet and all the ones i have found are crap or unable to download the template any help would be very help full :wink:

Neat toy there frenchy, but I hope folks at work don't start sending me emails like that.... Engineers are worse than doctors for handwriting, well ours are anyway and I don't fancy having to crawl my way through 50 odd emails that look they have been written by a drunk 3 year old

Can send you a copy of my CV if you want. My old one was duff it seems but as soon as I updated it I got offered jobs all over. Best thing to do is, as Frenchy says, make it stand out. If your of an older generation they are less interested in school qualifications, and more interested in certificates and qualifications you hold for the job applying for. Let them know what skills you have learnt over the years and how you can apply them. Another thing I have learnt is to put something in the hobbies and personal life that is "quirky". I mentioned in mine that I do Live Action Roleplay (LARP). Basically its a few hundred people in a field dressed in period and medieval/fantasy costume beating the hell out of each other with rubber swords (that are made to look like real ones) Involves a lot of running around, hitting stuff, girls in chain mail bikini's, and then lots of beer in the evening. It always catches attention and I found interviewers generally want to know more about that than other stuff. If asked about something you are passionate about in the interview you come accross as more confident and enthusiastic. They notice this and then you also stand out from the other god knows how many people they talk to.

It may even pay you to have a selection of different CV's tailored towards different tyes of jobs your applying for. I had three or four (cannot remember) covering Design Engineering (Cad Cam work), Driving Jobs, On-site fitter, etc etc. That way the cv processor reads what they want to see. No point trying to send in a CV that covers everything as it would be mahoosive and to be honest after the first page they get bored.

If you get to the interview stage use the internet to research about the company your going to as they will undoubtedly ask "So what do we do here?". Show genuine interest and knowledge. Don't just look around and guess. There is usually a whole heap of information online about most companies and this knowledge can secure you a job (it did with my current job to be honest).

that last bit, about learning about your prospective employer is great..

I done that with my current job. Learnt a bit about what they have in the pipeline, it suprised the chap who interviewed me..later on he pulled me up about it, i said "simples..googled the company, and read a few of the snippets from the press" sometimes google has more uses than finding porn... ;-)

Glad you got sorted on the CV - let me know if there is anything i can help with, my old company paid for some outplacement support so have got a fair bit of gumpf on CV & Interviews etc. Depending on job you will probably find that most will expect you to complete some aptitude tests either on line or at assessment centre - no tips for these except practice, practice, practice.
