Road Tax Rant

Well checked my truck out today on the web to find that my road tax had gone up to £105 :shock:

now i was so incensed by this because why can't the government of this country back off on the motorist especially us 4x4 owners (most of us anyway) thankfully my truck doesn't fall in the post 2001 tax band bracket but lets face it 95% of new post 2001 4x4's will never see offroad action and yet those of us who do are still penalised by hikes in road tax, we should be able to have 4x4 road tax calculated accordingly or have restrictions posed in the idea that at least so many times a year the vehicle should be used for the purpose it was built for and if you don't then you pay full whack i know quite a few of our members are reaching for shotguns to be pointed at me (i apologise) but please see where i am coming from, a lot of chelsea tractors and the like are used for the school run and leisure trips and will never see rocks and mud so it defies the object they are just status symbols to say look at me i am a posing ponce in my HSE Sport, i am sorry if offend anyone but i was just so annoyed and i got thinking my mind went overdrive and i got angry sorry guys rant over...

Hmmm, not totally sure on that one, I feel it's peoples right to have what they want, to justify a need more than someone else's is not going to work. Most of us drive offroad for sport, not need. Incidentally, these higher taxes are often labelled 4x4 taxes, they are not, it affects all vehicles, so any large family car can be liable, based on emissions. Though I do agree the motorist is an easy target.

you have a cheek to moan lee, as you don't even put your hand in your pocket for the insurance, the pug 18d is the same as the fronty, and at the end of the day you will pay it, you have no control over it, and never will, sorry for jumping on the soap box,

I'm with you Lee, its not like our fronty's are the gas guzzlers that the gov are targeting. There are alot more 4x4 that drink more fuel than ours than there are 4x4s that drink less. :evil:

Owners of the more thirsty trucks do pay more, through the pump.

I don't see the relevance on rant on the newer vehicles, all our trucks were new once, and the majority of Frontera's never saw Off Road action.

Motorists are an easy target, and always have and will be. Sorry.

Tax is a curse we all have to live with, no market forces, its imposed on us as an earner for the Government who ever they may be, we have been shafted since the 90's with tax and continue to do so, we are lucky most of us having older cars but its the unfortunates with the newer high band cars that purchased the car before the change was imposed I feel for, we older car owners have got off lightly in comparison.

Insurance, I moved in with my Mrs in this Close about 6 years ago about 37 years old,before I lived near the docks in Bootle, not the nicest reputation but its where I was brought up most of my life and I knew it well, my insurance jumped massively when I moved to Kirkby in Knowsley and Im only 500 yards from my old Borough Sefton and 300 yards from Lancashire, if I had either of those postcodes my premium would plummet.

Im 43 71% no claims, one write off due to vandalism 2 1/2 years ago nothing for 24 years and clean licence with more things I can drive than you can waggle a stick at ( thank you RCT ) Insurance this year ? still £390 and thats with a voluntary increase in my excess to lower the premium......... a bit peeved, yes I am, tax gotta live with it.... insurance is a complete and utter rip off, there is no free market its my belief they are scamming the drivers.
Statistics always pick bad areas, but as we know bad areas as do good change but with insurance they never change... they are a cash cow :evil:

i was looking at the stats a few weeks ago for immigration, the amount of people coming in has gone down by 20% and the amount of people leaving has gone up by 25%
