it drowned!

i went to buidwas on sunday and had lots of fun the fronty took the normal stick but it held it own. it only got stuck once
but it was a good one i was having fun playing in th the mud and the lakes but as i went into one of the lakes it just lost all grip. the water poured into the car which was great fun even then, but the laughs soon stopped when the engine cut out. i was pulled out cleaned the pipes but it wouldn't start the same bloke pulled me around which turned it over and it worked so i went down to the car park were it died again.

i got a lift to halfords has the fan belt had gone. Put it all back together and yet again it worked. so we started home but it was losing power till it cut out and wouldn't start again sat there for 30mins for it to cool down then it went again but not for long.

finally gave up an rang the AA.

i think the head gasket has gone as its losing oil and water plus the is water in the oil. when it does run it has no power, it very loud over heats very fast and the dies.

any one got any ideas how bad i have killed it?

If you had sucked water into the engine you should realy have cleared it first before trying to re-start as you could do serious damage, pistons, bent con rods etc. The pressure may have found a weak spot in the head gasket and gone that way. Once stuck in water it is best to switch off and not keep the engine running, no point as you aren't going anywhere, wait to be pulled out and see whats what then.

If it hydrolocked you shouldnt be able to turn the engine over, as Jim said you could have blown a gasket or seal somewhere.
What state is your air filter in?

havent looked yet. if it just needs an oil change an a clean ill do it but it the head has gone i mite brake it and get a newer one

does the coolant blow out of the filler cap if you remove it?
If you fully drowned it water will be in the intercooler, sump, air filter, turbo and probably the fuel too.
remove turbo pipes to check how far the water went, its not a good idea to use a hot turbo as a cold water pump, it will be foo-barred.
If it did hydraulic and you tow-started it, rather than blow the head gasket, you probably lifted the head.....end result = new motor required

we just finished the same job on a NEW Galaxy.....the guy tried to follow a 2CV :shock:

through a ford....and drowned half way through.
New engine and turbo = £4500.....he went through insurance tho

so im braking it them?

Do all the checks first, starting with the air filter that will give a very good indication how much water was sucked in, then follow the checks above.

Just in case of a worse case scenario there is a full engine for sale in the for sale section.

If you can do a compression test, do that first. Check head bolts for broken/loose.
If you got access to plenty of oil , change that too before doing a comp test.
If the rest of the things in good order, swap the engine.....must be plenty 2.3s' about

there is water in the intercooler pipes, in the turbo inlet pipes and on the dipstick. but the water pressure is still building up.

Probably lifted/distorted the head, try and get compression test done mate......if water got that far, its not looking good

If thats Carls truck,(I cant see vids @ work) he did the right thing tho, got towed out, removed injectors and pumped water out from above pistons so no damage caused....its the excess water on top of pistons that causes the problem.

My dog would love a good walk but is still on the mend from his knee op.

You wouldn't have a problem with the water pump would ya? as I remember I had a car that made a strange noise( used to turn the radio up to hide the noise :oops:

) and it would leak water and over heat, eventually the engine did die on me and all because I didn't change the water pump :cry:
