Strange runningNot got a monty section so will stick it here. Over the last week or so the 3.2 monty has been a little erratic at tick over, starts fine hot or cold and runs better cold. When warm has a slight flat spot around 2K rpm and on tick over there is a lumpy burble from the exhaust. Today it cut out 3 times at stand still and when re-started the revs rose and fell between 1 to 2.5k rpm. It ran ok for 14 miles but was still reving on its own when I pulled into a garage. After leaving the garage it ticked over as normal. A couple of times when I pull off the car just feels like it is out of fuel and as you lift off the pedal it picks up again. When I took the dogs out tonight it tick over at 2k rpm and after being stopped it then was fine. I'm guessing its a sensor but any ideas welcomed.

Re: Strange runningAlso check the lamda sensors, one each side ahead of catalytic coverter
Re: Strange runningOnly got one on the monty and had that changed for mot so hoping that is ok. It was the reason for failing the test and once replaced it passed.

Re: Strange runningMaf is after the air box, a removeable bit with the sensor wire.
If it suffers the same intake manifold problem as the 3.2 could be worth spraying some carb cleaner or wd40 around the joint from the common air chamber to the intake manifold to see if it changes note of the engine running. If so I cured mine with some exhaust putty, if its in the inside of the V its a new gasket, not a fortune. Fronty no.4, pimp mobile Treg 3.2 LWB lifted 2.5"
Fronty no.5 2.8 swb hd coils +2" 31"machos.
Re: Strange runningWell what I thought was the maf was the iac instead. It was black and filthy so gave it a clean and the erratic running has not appeared today so that must have cured that, but the lumpy burble and slight flat spot is still there, could this still be the maf? On the monty there is the hose that runs from the airbox to the throttle body but there is nothing between it that looks like a maf. The chilton book shows a picture of the maf on its own but not where it is, will have to have another nose around.

Re: Strange runningCan't find maf anywhere, there is no sensor between airbox and throttle body, is the fronty v6 a similar layout and is there a piccy on the site of one?

Re: Strange runningPANTS! Funny running has returned, tickover is either 2k rpm or it slowly drops and then dies. Have tested tps, map, cleaned and tested iac and all are ok. There seems not to be a maf so can't check that, did ask on itoc and the guys there posted an engine pick, looks same as mine, no maf. When putting foot down there is just a big hole, ease off then floor it and it flips round to the redline fine. Thought it could be blocked exhaust or cat but would that be intermitant?? Had decided to keep and use for work but if it keeps naffing me around I will get somthing else. HELP...please.

Re: Strange runningNot sure, not done the wd40 check, it could be, it tends to run better cold and rougher when warm so maybe the seal is looser when warm??

Re: Strange runningI would think it would expand when warm, but possibley more pressure when the engine is up to speed, cant hurt to check though
