light offroading ?

hi all if im going for a 2.0 sport (early k-l reg maybe an m reg) and wanting to basically go green laning as i would like to get into offroading the easiest way rather than jumping in head first and basically do the sensible thing eg get used to being offroad

and as i think it would be standard what mods should i do eg :- tires, snorkel

what else is there i can do as it will have to be rather standard as im still going to be building up my 1 yrs ncb and im still going to be 17

you need a fully roadworthy vehicle (ie:- mot ,tax ,insurance) before you even think about mods ....

and if you need major mods to drive on a green lane ...then you need to think about weather you should be driving it at all

i can see what your saying how ive worded it but what i mean is when the time comes what can i do eg lighht mods like the tires etc what can i do ? as you can prolly tell ive never been green laning or offroading but looks so much fun! and well id rather start when i can but
i can see what your saying ( basically , wait) so really once ive passed got insurance etc and still want to go green laning with you or anybody on here who will show me what to do if i get stuck etc but really what your saying is when i have everything to make me legal (as i will anyway as im going to be using everyday to get back and foarth to work) then i shouldnt need any mods to go green laning

Its all here in the forums, try the search function, look in modifications, tyres, and accessories all the info you could need from tyre size to furry dice :wink:

Only advice i can give is take it slow and easy, any mod will change ur insurance price, and for me at 21 with 0 no claims and a 2.4i lwb it was £2080 for my first year, so wait with any mods and just get used to driving the car to start with.

thinking that the normal cheapo tires like hankook or timos are a bit duff as these were on my dads and it made the car handle like a dog lol and i was just a passenger and even himself said this too

but i cant forget my furry dice :lol:

yeah this is what im thinking leaving it standard but just change the tires as these are dont make any difference to the insurance as there not a bolt on accesory and i mean just the tires not wheels winches, lift kits or even shackles just the tires eg bf'gs or maxxis not propper off tires just some better than the cheapo ones

Mate before you think about moding it try it in standard form first I can guarantee you ,you will be pleasantly supprised,get your name down for a laning trip with the experts,and learn the proper way

yeah thats what im going to do i just dont want it to wreck the truck in anyway so thought well snorkel but really green laning isnt that bad and well if its possible to go greenlaning in a bogo sport then wel... what can i say but thanks for the info

If you need to replace the tyres a good AT tyre will handle most lanes no problem as well as deliver decent road performance.As the guys have said,take it one step at a time and if you really want to spend a few quid, buy a few good quality recovery straps etc. The standard fronty is pretty agile and many members tackle the lanes with no mods at all.One of the most important rules is always go out with at least one other vehicle. :wink:

Grab a beer or mug of tea and spend a few hours on here & you will learn a lot! I know I did!

in standard mode a frontera is a very capable machine .get some experience first before you try any major off roading and then start with the modifications slowly and work your way up to a fully moded truck .the main thing is enjoy yourself and be careful :twisted:

As everyones said, the standard Fronty is very capable, the SWB is a bit more agile in standard trim because of its wheelbase. If you can, get it on a specialist 4x4 insurance, they saved an old git like me a few quid, with a short milage policy you can exceed you milage and incurr a larger excess should you bump it after the milage has expired, for a young un it could be a good saving.

As for mods, Tyres arent cheap (budget £250 at least).

A propper suspenson lift is about the same, if DIY.

Snorkles can be done DIY cheap if your good with your hands.

My advice is to get a nice cheap SWB and buy some good spanners and a socket set, they will save you a lot on garage bills, tyres and suspension can wait a while.

well i would like to get to know the laning experts and basically slide my way into it easily and yeah progress with it in the future buti didnt think they were as agile as that but going throough some of the photo's i can see what you mean
