banter general discussions etc

Occasionally (very occasionally) I get these little brainwaves from the sawdust in my skull...
Today's one concerns my now naked rear end
Was wondering what to do about the rear wiper sweeping over the join between glass and tailgate now the spare holder's in the boot, plus I've been casting round for places to stick a CB antenna for a while too.
I had thought "lets use one of the holes for the spare holder to stick the antenna into, then realised this would stop any use of the rear wiper. Reckon I've got a plan though - take an angle grinder to the spare holder, and cut it a couple of inches from where it meets the door, then re-attatch it.
Result - wiper will have the little bumper thing to protect the blade as it comes off the glass, plus I have a nice solid place to drill a 3/8 stud mount into

Sounds like a plan - just make sure that there is good metal to metal contact there to ensure the groundplane is intact.
I have been using a truck mirror mount on the metal "protection" loop above the spare holder for my antenna since I got the car, and it's working just peachy.

It's one of the few things that mine didn't fail on ...
All things considered, you don't actually need vision out of the rear window - consider vans and the like. All you technically need is the drivers wing mirror and that's it.
That and the spare normally sits in the vision line anyway ...

Ooo00oo... does this mean the idea meets with approval then??
Jay, I think rangaKoo does exactly the same as you for his antenna, also with good results. As for groundplane, I'll remember that - bit of sandpaper to get rid if any paint for the connection, should be sorted, I reckon.
Think a celebratory drink is in order for having such a stonking idea. Now just got to find somebody who'll do the grinding
*looks in Carl's direction*
