led v halogen

am looking at making / buying a light bar for my beast, but am torn between led and halogen. Halogens look cheaper (halfords got them at 20 quid a pair) but leds look like a easier low profile install. .... Also could i use leds as a replacement for my head light bulb? am thinking of making a cluster type bulb with around 50-100 of these.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-x-Pre-Wired ... 61ed0856e.. am i better sticking to halogen ? any pointers

I made a Light Bar for Truck using 4 x 24w LED Lights from fleabay (something like these) it was pretty easy to make and does the job but at the time the available light units were 'work lamps' which give out a 60 degree beam vs the 'spotlight' versins which give out 30 degree beams.
It's very good at lighting up the hedgerows and wins the my headlights are bigger than yours competitions we seem to have round here every time! I am however planning on replacing the centre two units with LED 30 degree beam spots so I get the distance as well as the closer stuff.
Easy to wire though and they do use less current.

This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been
Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered

Owning a 2.8 is a hobby in it's self...
Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered

i think LED are having a bit of a revolution at the minute, more research and tech going into them, costs coming down, reliability going up. power consumption versus visible light its incredible to be honest (in a good way)
pretty mundane but i converted some old everready bike lamps (its for a retro bike btw) to LED last year. theory crafting, the wattage of the bulbs and amp hours of the batteries means the LED are 4 times as bright (lumens) but the battery life is also doubled! (compared to the filament bulb)
agree with snapper though they dont seem to project a beam as far but might be because the reflector is tailored to filament bulb.

thanks lads, think ill have a bash at making a cluster bulb for the indicators first, I seem to have to plenty of people telling my to use my indicators during the day even no there on and working.. bulbs are right reflectors are clean too. I like the way the leds light up the area close to the light over the halogen lamps
