After lunch tightening and odd jobs were done, the next thing was priming. This time we primed it by the compressor in fuel filler method, we managed to get fuel up to the pump but after a few minutes out hearts sank as there was loads of air in it and it seemed we still had the same issue as the other days and as soon as we turned the compressor off all the fuel ran back to the tank again. Next we decided we would conjour up something to allow us to do it via the priming port which meant pushing down that all important shroder value. After lots of head scratching, shrugging of shoulders and looking into the sky for inspiration we came up with a priming bulb, some wire sheathing and a childs plastic arrow toy (don't ask). This worked reasonably well but we moved onto priming port tool MKII which consisted of a chopped and ground down injector pipe some blue electrical tape (has to be blue or it wouldn't work) some small fuel hose and a jubilee clip. When using this version after a short while we noticed bubbles we only on the exit side of the bulb which went into a jerry can and the fuel lines in the engine bay were bubble free. Next the moment of truth, switched the compressor off and hey presto the fuel stayed in the pipes
I looked at Ian thinking 'can it really be true??' he responded with a cheaky grin Progress was better than many times before because this time we actually made it all the way out of the driveway. Up the road we went and approached the farm track where it had cut out every time before due to using all the fuel it had left in the system, 'it's going to cut out, it's going to cut out' I thought but NO past we went and i'm i'm sure I let out a little "WOO HOO! or YEAH HA!" drove a little further and turned round and made it back home without issue. We switched the engine off and the fuel stayed where it was and started straight away. I started it numerous times and it seems to be ok. I will take it out for a run at some point to see.
We ended the day with an ice bucket challenge so thanks Andy for chucking that over me
I'd like to thank Ian Andy and Rob for all their help who even after multiple visits remained undeterred and in true FOG spirit were not going to leave a man behind. Thanks to Gemma, Maria & Lisa for keeping us fed and watered and being true fog wenches. Thanks to Bobby for the parts and everyone who gave me advice/helped on this.
I am now going outside to start it up and will try to contain my self from clapping and giggling like a school girl.
