Ahhaaaaa that may explain the military helicopters I saw over Shrewsbury yesterday and...............the Vulcan bomber, I glimpsed it through the clouds (heard it first unmistakable) then it came around again a few minutes later and I confirmed it was Mr Vulcan again

You're dead right there Ste .... there's no mistaking the Vulcan, she's sadly like nothing else on this planet. Long may she keep flying.
Things like the memorial flight and the Vulcan just go to show what British engineering can achieve sometimes. Hope you guys get to see the planes.

Would that be this one Jim? Sadly not the best of vids, but you gets the idea.... (at 02:00 you really do need to turn the speakers to MAX to get the true effect of the four Rolls-Royce Olympus Engines as it's in the overhead and going for the clouds)

Er, the Vulcan is not actually a member of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - the aircraft that make up the BBMF are a combination of:

Spitfire
Hurricane
Lancaster
Chipmunk
Dakota

They tried before XH558 was retired Lawrence, but a few things were against it at the time IIRC (and still are), Apart from the obvious in the name (BBMF) and the Vulcan was a bit too late for the Battle of Britain cost was also another issue.

Although the chippy didnt get to play in the Battle of Britain I believe the BBMF use it as their training aircraft as it's a tail dragger like the rest of the fleet unlike most current RAF types which the crews would be trained on which have tricycle type undercarriages.

I'm only going by this information (it did not mention the Vulcan)

How did the vulcan bomber get in this conversation, it hadn't even been built near WW11. Its first flight wasn't until the 30th August 1952, XH533. WW11 was well over by then finishing by September 1945. :thumbup:
