air rifle advise

Hi all been after a air rifle for abit now and I am after what u think on makes and models would like get back in to hunting but want spend a lot of time at the range first.
Been looking at daystate air ranger or timber wolf.
Now I am left handed so makes a lot 2nd guns hard to get
Do I go for .22 or .177
Also want be shooting 50-100 yards
Let me know what you have got and what you use it for

Too many questions. .22 is a hard hitting lower penetration projectile, whilst .177 is deep penetration, organ rupturing and my preferred choice. I guess we are talking non fac here?
What will you be shooting and at what ranges there are other calibres available now too, such as .25 which the Americans love.
My non fac air rifle is an old but refurbished Titan MC010 in .177, charged from a stirrup pump. Had it about 12 years or more, but recently refurbed. I also have a SBS 12 guage shotty, a .22 rim and a .17HMR, (FAC).

Right yes none fac but something that could be upgraded. Want shoot pests around the farm when i know i can kill them. Theres a range in stoke by me 50yard range.
Also want something that isnt going brake every 5 mins want go the range for 2hours

If you have access to land you can forget the range as you don't need it. Nothing like the real thing to be honest. When you have the rifle, scope and pellet combination, set up targets at varying ranges and master the gun. Might take a few tins of slugs to do this. But then you are ready to start, being confident in a kill and not an escaped wounded wild animal.
What is your budget for the gun / scope combo?

Have seen a timber wolf for 1200 by me with everything i should have that sort of cash in next week or two. The range is 5min walk from my house land is a 30min drive i cost me 2pound all day at range with good advise on were going wrong setting it up. I used to be good with a gun but havent had one for 8 years

A dive bottle will need testing and certificating at cost every so often.

A non fac weapon is only going to kill cleanly at 30 yds or so due to loss of penetrational propulsion. Beyond that range you are probably going to maim and wound something that will then escape. When I was young and stupid I pushed the boundaries, and was sometimes lucky, occasionally not. You have to live with your conscience.
Regarding the choice of weapon, better to buy an old and established brand rather than some flashy new toy. BSA, Weihmarch , Daystate, etc are good names that also have good backup should anything go wrong.

i was told .177 for feather and .22 for fur but everyone has a preference. I've used both and can't complain but .177 needs a more accurate shot.

On a different note, i was using a £12,000 marine sniper rifle with varying rounds this summer :shock:

shot a 47kg gas canister from 200m with a tracer round and its pant wetting fun! haha

.22 rimfire would be my suggestion if you can get FAC...

Iv a logun s16evo , I use a stirrup pump to fill it ( 100mile round trip to fill a dive bottle )
I'm dropping bunnies at 40-45 yards ( good conditions ) rifle is tuned right up to 11.6ftp ......… I love it lol , it's not every bodies taste , heavyweight but 250+ shots a fill ( a little less tuned ) can't go wrong ;-)

To shoot that sort of distance ( 50-100 yards ) your talking FAC ( fire arms cert ) I don't no any sub 12ftp rifle that will put a pellet that distance with killing accuracy .......

Well under 50 yds if not FAC otherwise you will just be wounding and listening to squeals from inside the thorn bush.

Yes i dont want pull the trigger if its not a kill shot but wud like get good at targets at 50 yards+

50-70 yards is doable with a sub 12 rifle , practice practice practice , but a range is diffrent to the field ...... Fine a club with a out door range would be my advice ......

I had a bsa meteor and a lightning they were good rifles and reasonable money, but obviously there are plenty to choose from.
