I bought an engine stand that is universal. It is about the right height off the floor so that you can place a chair next to it and sit down whilst working on it. I dont think you would want it too high as getting it up there to bolt on in the first place would not be easy as they are damn heavy although I did lift a fully built engine out of my boot and mounted it onto the stand by hand with a little help when lining up the bolt holes.
I would say that so far I have bolted the engines end on but this can be a pain as you need to remove the flywheel. So if you could make up a plate to allow mounting directly to the block where the normal engine mountings would be, then onto the cradle that would be better and you could still spin it with the handle.
