Winching - Why are people so dumb when doing it?

Postby geeks on Wed Jul 24, 2013 2:18 pm

Why are some people so immune to the dangers this poses? We were out at Whaddon at the weekend (pics and vids to follow, not the winching incident) and two guys with a Defender and a cut up SJ were there winching this SJ out of the mud stood over the winch line one foot either side as it pulled the SJ back, then when the winch started struggle they were looking down the spooler while the cable was on tension. :axe:

They did seem a bit 3.141key (i appreciate that is a geralisation but if you were there you might have agreed, the defender had a vinyl of a topless bird covering the whole roof, mildly funny but really?) and scoffed at The Hulk and Violet going round and then gawped when we both sailed by when the SJ was stuck yet again, both Fronties on AT's and SJ on huge muds..

Rant over just boggles the mind on occasion!
Rule #3: Don't believe what you're told. Double check

Its not a landy thing, its just that some people seem to have no sense when it comes to things potentially going wrong and the possible outcome...

To matters worse, the current generation of school kids are molly coddled to the degree that they are forbidden to do anything that might entail a glimmer of risk, so they will grow up even more risk-naive than their parents...

Its only going to get worse...but winches will probably be banned then anyway, along with any car than doesnt have 76 airbags, and offroading will be long since gone due to the fact its fun, and hence must be dangerous and therfore deemed illegal...it just be something that they show clips of on nostalgic tv programs to show how we used to live, rather like us watching jousting or gladiators in the ring.

Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again...
She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body...
Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer!

Last week, scorching hot and had odd looks
when I put the thick gloves and goggles to
test run the winch - don't care, later that day
the news mention about casualty depts
being busy with amputated toes because
the casualties were mowing with flymo's
while wearing flip-flops.
