Hi guys and gals,

I have owned a 2.3 for a few years now but she has been off the road for 18 months. I was going to scrap her but after jump starting her (hasn't been turned over since being parked up), she roared back into life and made me get all emotional! The problem I have is she is on a Q plate and proves to be costly to insure. This has made me consider picking up another 2.3 and using the old gal for spares. Is it really worth it or should I let her rest in peace??? Although if anyone has a cheap 2.3 I may be tempted!

Can I just ask why she's on a Q plate bud??? And could you fill out the basic in your profile so we know where you are? If she's running and in good condition I would get her back on the road.

When she was brand new a garage bought a couple of Fronteras from vauxhall prior to being registered, a few days later the garage went bust and my uncle bought them, however, when it came to registering them there was a cock up somehow and they would only allow them to be registered as Q plates. I have to admit, I considered picking up a non running 2.3 in the same colour and swapping the plates but thought better of it!

why not buy a dead 2.3 and rebuild it. although from what i can gather the 2.3s dont die. they just dont go anywhere particularly fast

It does sound like a plan to get another and swap the bits over!!!

Before she was parked up (I lost my job) I had replaced no end of bits and bobs, since then became self employed and drive a newish transit. I now am in a position to get her out again and look forward to being able to strip her down using a basic tool kit (unlike my over complicated van!!!). She always towed my caravan everywhere, and to be honest pulled better than my dads Discovery, especially on hills.
