12v kettle

Anyone use and recommend a 12volt kettle for in car use. I know they are abit slow to boil, but I'm sure some are better than others. I know a camping gas type stove would be quicker, but it needs to be used in-car.

I think most of their kit is 24v, might be wrong though.

I know you can get the element to drop into a cup of water but not sure how good they are with me not drinking tea or coffee :lol:

Just thinking ahead to the cooler months, can't beat a fresh cup of something hot when soaked through and freezing cold. Might just stick to my kelly kettle and keep the windows open, cough cough :lol:

I have one of the 'standard' cheapo kettles that I've had for years - used it to great effect driving to Spain ten years ago, then learnt how not to use it...
I tried using it, through the cigar lighter socket as normal, and blew the fuse as I didn't have the engine running. Those things do pull a fair bit of power so be careful if you're not sure on your cabling (mainly on additional 12v sockets).

As for the camping stoves, to be fair, the length of time it takes to boil enough water for a cuppa would outweigh the cons of stopping and using one, but each to their own

I have one of those Boxy, will probably start using it again, just wondered if there was a decent 12v gadget out there.

Sorry Jim, but my vote is for a small butane stove.
You're going to have to be stopped whether you use that or a leccy kettle, but the 12/24v stuff just takes an age to boil as water is a huge energy soak and you're limited on how much juice can be drawn even through a 24v socket.

Fumes and steam from the few minutes use needed to make a brew can be mitigated by cracking the widow slightly. Used to do that when I tramped, and in the time it took to do my morning paperwork my coffeepot would go from stone cold to brewed.

Truck kit is mostly 24v simply because that's what the electrical system is built on, although pretty much everything these days has a couple of 12v sockets. They tend to have a 5a limit thogh, while the 24v system is 15a

Woodwizzard....I have got a 900v generator for sale that will boil a regular 240v household kettle in about 45 seconds if you are interested??? :lol:
