What would you do differently ?

either not sold my last one and done it up or got a v6 instead of my current one but its finally getting sorted

Not sell my v6 and kept that as my daily drive and made a monster out of the 2.8 for offroad use.

The 2.5 arrived with a 2" bodylift which I still can't make my mind up about.
I haven't done any mods except some steel sheet curved at the back to form simple lockers over the wheel arches to put my stuff in. They are working well.
I have sketched designs for permanent bicyle rack to carry a couple of bikes at least.
Iv'e also made a telescopic ice scraper which folds up to fit into the drivers door pocket.
I seem to be concerned with using all the available cavities to carry stuff in while leaving the back empty and have plans for a hinge down replacement for the back door liner,probably thick ply.
It needs more tie down points inside and I would like to make a load cover to stretch over the whole back when the seats are down.
I've made different pins so the back seats can come out completely easily
It could do with longer roof rails and I might put stick a thick rubber mat or even ally chequer plate on the roof to slide bits of metal on. I would then need some kind of tie down point on the front bumper.
It needs several rust patches dealt with first.

Nothing, I reckon I got the right car with this and its perfect for what I want and do and mechanically suits me :lol:

Ahh I lie, I should have saved a bit more at the last tyre change and bought BFG muds :oh yer:

I have to admit I spent 2 years planning every penny spent on doing mine up ... and it was worth every one of those pennies.

One I thought of last night is that when I get the new project truck, I wont use the Bug's AVM manual hubs, I'll buy the new versions that have the trim cap held on with proper bolts (not those annoying countersunc imperial socket screws).

I was also set on NOT using retread tyres - having run a set for the past two years, my view of them has changed conciderably (especially for the use I give them).

I'll think of a few more for later.

I will admit that I had a good head start before attacking the Troop with spanners considering she had rear LSD, Aisin manual hubs, and uprated suspension all fitted as standard.

The thing which I constantly told myself was that every mod I went ahead with had to compliment what was there and do things in stages.

I started with 31" tyres, but fitted them onto Frontera pepperpots. This gave some lift, but also wider stance. Helps in the stability front. It was also carefully chosen so I didn't get any clearance issues. The rears tucked into the arches on articulation, and no fouling on the front arches and steering components on full lock even when flexing.

After that was the 2" suspension lift. This again was enough to give a bit more room for stuff to move off road, but not enough to have any adverse on the daily drive.

Finally was the bodylift and 33's. I didn't want to go chopping things apart to make it work. I sourced the arch flares which are an Isuzu option (to keep things OEM), Gregster found me some good wheels and tyres for better offset, and the 3" body lift made all these all into place. Now she sits at a very respectable height, the 33's stick out flush with the edges of the arch flares. There is no fouling on articulation and hard lock, and the brucey bonus is I haven't had to touch the body with a grinder to gain clearance. If I really wanted to I can remove the entire lot and revert completely back to stock just by unbolting everything and no repair work.

One thing which I kept telling myself was I didn't want the truck to look like I had gone through a catalogue and just bought what looked cool without thinking the end result. I have seen so many trucks with bolt on accessories that just made what was once a tidy vehicle looking like a complete mess. My main aim was to keep things looking as original as possible, Making all the changes in keeping with how she should of left the factory, I suppose in some ways (and Robfog echoed this) she looks like like a production vehicle. His words were she looks like how Isuzu should of made the Mk.I Trooper.

I still have quite a bit of work that needs doing. Front and rear bumpers. Front nudge bar. Rockslider side steps. Discreet front winch. As you can imagine I am spending a lot of time deliberating what to do so I have plenty of time to mess things up and make mistakes

tbh i am in line woth most people here.

only thing is i would prob look at putting an internal roll cage into it first and then going from there.

and would prob look at rock sliders on it, what i am doing at the mo still.

Mmmm, not sure on this one, my 2.8 has been an evolution and what started as a basic 2" lift with 32" tyres 5 years ago has grown somewhat.

TBH it is probably part of the learning curve, have always been fairly handy with cars and can do pretty much everything (apart from painting) including welding and if I knew what I know now about Frontera's and modifying them would probably have gone out and done it in 1 go (funds permitting) but thats hindsight for you.

Can't say I have regretted any of the mods I have done, most have worked out well, can't think of any bad ones off the top of my head, there have been a few plans that I didn't start and went down another route instead.

For me, the only thing I'd do differently would be: go diesel from the off!
None of this faffing about with the highly strung 2.2 petrol, straight for the old school 2.8.

buy better springs landrover disco rear ones are far too harsh

not much! think that having the first few trucks were the learning ground - now current one will be how i want it (yer right!).

all i would have done different on this one would have been take two weeks off and finish it in one hit rather than dragging on for last 8 months and still more time required
