Chainsaw.Hi folks im after a bit of advise thinking of getting a electric chainsaw and was wondering if anyone could recommend one i have a budget of about £100. I have to cut back some trees so i can start preparing the ground for my workshop. I suppose the biggest cut will be about 200mm so any advise would be good.

Re: Chainsaw.I'd get a petrol one to be honest.
You should get something pretty good on your budget (Maybe s/hand off ebay or even new at that price) 14 inch or bar or slightly bigger should do the trick... Electric are o.k. but it's a real chore messing around with all that cable. Even the cordless ones are a pain. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ryobi-RCS4040 ... 3640wt_932 These are good! Very Good! Re: Chainsaw.check out hutt imports they sell on ebay i got one of them 3years ago for £80, with the opinion that if it done the garden and fell to bits so what.
3 years later its still goin strong starts easy and only thing iv had to do to it is fit a new spark plug, if the the ones they are selling now are as good quality you cant go wrong
Re: Chainsaw.I bought one from Aldi for 49.99 just to cut down some trees in the back garden..
It did the job, and I havent used it since. If you use one regularly then its worth spending a bit more to get a good one. But if its for a one off job pretty much then I would just get a cheapie that you can "throw away" aftarwards. - well not really but you know what I mean. Fronty B, 2002 3.2 V6

Re: Chainsaw.Make sure you dont buy a copy of a good make tho bud, i know a guy that bought a STIHL from a guy that drove into there yard at work sayin he had 2 demo ones to get rid of and wanted £100 each for em, thats cheap for one of them!, any how it broke in two whilst up a tree and left his legs in a right mess!! Be carefull!! oh and if its just a one off use,try the black&decker scorpion, i got one n they brill..

Re: Chainsaw.I bought this at the start of last year http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kiam-Sherwood ... 3f14c54aa3
I cut hard and soft wood logs on a weekly basis up to a maximum of 12 inches thick and it always starts first time and does the job. The only down side is the chain oil lube system is crap so I have an old washing up liquid bottle filled with chain lube and i lube it manually. Cracking value IMHO
Re: Chainsaw.Suppose really it's how thick are the bows/trees that you want to cut back. Also how dry the wood is. Seeing Greg in action with his Stihl up the woods, deffo the petrols have the power upper hand. That said, I bought a Spear & Jackson 2000W refurb or return off ebay a few years back for £50, and touching wood - pardon the pun - it's still going strong. I took a chance with an electric saw when I needed to cut a load of railway sleepers - which it did with no dramas. I've since cut a neighbours tree down that had a trunk approx. 12" diameter. There other bit of advise is that if you do buy either flavour, I would make sure it's got a chainsaw oil facility to keep the chain lubricated. Another factor is to use quality chains rather than cheap ones - they are your fingers on the trigger.
Re: Chainsaw.Ive got 2 of these and never had a problem and with the extra cover if it breaks they just swap it!

Re: Chainsaw.Chainsaws are a necessity over here in France.
I have used an electric one (once) then decided to play it safe and invest in a petrol model. Even the most standard, cheapest petrol powered saw will run circles around an electric one, personally in the interests of health and safety I think they should be banned. If you have never used one,I would strongly recommend going for petrol. John
Re: Chainsaw.Thank you for all your replies since i started this thread a mate of a mate has a petrol chainsaw and he has cut a couple of trees back for me today. At least i can make a start on the ground work for the concrete pad. I still have about 12 trees to cut back so im sure i will get one for myself soon. Thanks again for all you comments
