hi all im a newbee and looking at my first frontera 2.8 today its a 1996 service history and 130000 miles cambelt done 10000 ago im used to checkingcars out eg gears clutch brakes etc but is there anything specific i should watch for on the fronty
any help appreciated
im in shropshire hoping to greenlane

Check the rear diff for leaks, fixable and a good bargaining point, just make sure its not to smoky

Try and find out how often the engine oil has been changed (mileage) your looking for around 3 to 4.5k depending on the use and if the U/J joints have been greased. Check to see if the heater works or if it gets confused and operates like a fridge... most do. Check door handles, assuming it's a lwb the rear door handles have a nasty habit of breaking if they arent kept clean and lubricated. Electric Mirrors, the switch is at best vague... Oh and ask them if it's ever been run on tesco veg oil or ex chippy oil, if it has then use that as a bargaining point because it can bung everything up.
Don't forget, when you get it, do a full oil and filter service on it. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been
Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered )Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... well damn it the clutch was slipping and the temp gauge never moved (thermostat ?) so heaters cold but how much roughly to fixaclutch on these or is it not worth bothering ?

A 2.8 takes about half an hour to even get the temp needle moving
 well 20 minutes mine takes A clutch at a garage will be about £150 for the kit (£120ish if you buy the kit yourself) and add about 4 hours labour at what ever rate the garage charge. Ste

A dead clutch? worth bothering with? Nah, tis far far too hard mate, I'd get rid if I was you....
