Sitting bored in the house,thought i,d go hunting quotes,now i know for insurance comps ain,t gotta clue.1st up 2001 vw golf gti value£1750 quote £325 fc....2nd 2001 value £750 xiam 400 cc quote £393.wait for it both by the same comp.swiftcover.Has anybody got an idea how this sort off ripoff comes about.And i only pay £260 for the fronty.Its a mad mad world.

The VW has several advantages to an insurer.
The parts availability if it's smashed up
Safer (think liability claims from passengers)
And probably (I would imagine) more secure than the Aixam.

It's not all about speed.

I dunno man, when it comes to risk assessment passenger liability i would think would be the same weather in a rolla or a reliant. safe or secure car who in they,re right mind would rob a xiam pmsl.It just baffles me.

The point being that there would be more chance of serious/fatal injury in the dinky toy than the Golf. But yes, I agree, you would have to be a special kind of stupid to steal one

Like Box says, safety, security and availability of parts are all taken into account. The VW migh be more attractive to thieves, but it's also much harder to steal.

Get an old one. That way you can have it on a classic vehicle policy
